US would work with the new government of Bangladesh. Shall we say, good boy, to the USA?
The USA, UK or even the UN are not who are supposed to have their minds in Bangladesh. They can express their concerns and reservations about the imperfect election in Bangladesh. As long as they do not send their Seventh Fleet to the Bay of Bengal, the Hasina government should ignore them, and keep trying to improve life in Bangladesh.
Even if BNP participated in the election, it still would have been a very flawed democracy; because there is no intra-party democracy in Bangladesh. The top leaders of the parties dictate who gets nominated for election, with the ordinary members of the parties having practically no say there.
The Hasina government should prosecute corrupt politicians from all parties, including from Awami League. The government should prosecute all crimes that were committed over the last few months on innocent people. There should be no talk of another election any time soon. The government should vigorously prosecute the incitement of anarchy by the BNP leadership, irrespective of their association or dissociation of Jamaat-i-Islami.
The hate-crimes against the non-violent religious minorities should be prosecuted via rapid trials.
As long as the government keeps working on improving life in Bangladesh, the country can live with a flawed democracy. Over time, hopefully, democratic traditions would take root in Bangladesh.
