Re: [mukto-mona] Re: প্রথম রাষ্ট্রপতি নিয়ে বিতর্ক সংবিধান লঙ্ঘন

There is actually some lessons to be learned from all these. First, Bangladesh needs to be honest about the history, and then place people in their appropriate historical positions. Second, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did a lot of blunders; one of them being keeping Ziaur Rahman in a position from which he could work on his undeserving ambitions.

It is a fact of history that Zia's first announcement did not include "one behalf of" any leader. It is not clear to me if he called himself the C-in-C or head of the state; but it was something similar. Whatever it was, it was totally out of line for a junior military officer who had no role in the political fights for the rights of the people of the eastern wing of Pakistan over the years of 1947-1971. If Mujib were a really astute politician, he would have seen the hugely inflated ambition of Zia, and kept him away from any center of power. Mujib probably should have sent him to a foreign country as the ambassador of Bangladesh, as opposed to making him the deputy chief of the army. By making Shafiullah, who was Junior to Zia, the chief of the army, what Mujib did was like hurting a snake. He was not foresighted enough to break the venomous teeth of the snake.

A few days ago, a man claimed himself owner of the country and went to meet the finance minister. He was termed mad.  Over 43 years  ago a mad and ambitious Zia called himself President and yet evaded legal punishment.  Now his followers want to establish legitimacy to his claim.

All these talks of laws and courts actually bother me. The country really needs honest, educated (read "rational", as opposed to "degree-holder") and responsible intelligentsia and leadership. That is the only way to make hateful, crazy, and clownish people worthless in the political sphere of the country. The fact that people like Khaleda and her son have a lot of popularity in Bangladesh is not their fault, it is the fault of the nation as a whole, and of the intelligentsia in particular.

As we had a bit of discussion in this forum recently, "a country gets the leaders it deserves."
