Re: [mukto-mona] [মুক্তমনা বাংলা ব্লগ] 'তিরিশ লক্ষ শহীদ, বাহুল্য নাকি বাস্তবতাঃ ধর্ষিত মা'য়েদের জবানবন্দী'

Dr. Bain,
What do you mean by correct death and rape figures of the liberation struggle? Who counted them? It's always estimation. Would you disbelief everything else that happened because of that? Well, that's what collaborators, and perpetrators want you to believe. Obviously, many of you are buying that logic. Collaborators are saying - all these are false stories.
Everybody understand, by now, 30 lakh figure could be far from the truth. That does not dismiss everything else that happened.
The question here is - whether torture chamber was there, and whether rape victims were tortured during the liberation struggle. These people are saying – yes, such tortures did occur, and they are telling them. It is up to you to believe them or not.
Let's understand - what will they gain from these revelations? Nothing, except slight relief in the chest. In fact, many of those people have already endangered their lives again.

With all the disgust against the barbarians that committed the crimes, I agree with the points that Dr. Rahman has made below.

A nation that grossly distorts the facts of history is a bastard nation. The facts should be told, and then interpretations of the reasons can vary depending on which side one is. The culture of accepting lies as facts is a huge shame for Bangladesh as a nation.

The exaggeration of the 1971 casualties is too shameful. The nation was never serious about punishing the criminals, yet inflating the figures for what? Trying to glorify the victory, or getting sympathy from the world? Well, the way I see it, when the nation is not really serious about the gravity of and punishments for the crimes, the real message is actually that the nation does not care about the deaths and sufferings of the victims. In other words, Bangladesh is not an honorable nation. (Meaning, the nation has not created honorable leaders, for which people in general had to have their sense of honor.) Why should anyone/power in the world outside of Bangladesh care?

You are saying that - you cannot
trust these descriptions, since death- and rape- figures
were all wrong.

Well, I do not care so much about
correct figures, because - I know, for sure, extremely

large number of victims were involved, and, it is true
that - many of those victims endured suffering beyond our
imagination.
This article is just revealing some of those sufferings to
us; these victims are
still alive, and one can easily verify these
stories.Jiten Roy

Bangladesh
history, whether it is written by a Muslim or a Hindu, is
going to be littered with lies and deception. Facts and
actual figures are all willfully distorted to gain political
mileage.
Just look
at the quoted figure of 30 lac (3 million) deaths in the
liberation war! An absolute, unmitigated, total lie. The
actual figure is more like 30 to 40 thousand deaths on all
sides put together. When Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came back
from Pakistani prison after independence, his 'shagreds'
(sycophants) exaggerated the number wildly to impress upon
him how seriously they fought and how bloody the war was and
they put a figure of 3 lacs. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
translated this 3 lac to 3 million when he was giving his
first interview with foreign journalists. (The total
exaggeration about 100 times). Now all officials and
government publications quote 3 million deaths. This is how
history is massacred and distorted in
Bangladesh. (Consider
the following statistics: In Vietnam war over a period of
19.5 years the total death figure is between 1.5 to 1.8
million. This figure includes hundreds of thousands of North
Vietnam civilians, Viet Congs, South Vietnam civilians and
soldiers and 58,000 American soldiers. Now in Bangladesh
within nine months
without any large scale war, the death figure had gone
nearly double of Vietnam war! Are we all
idiots?).
History
must be told correctly for future generations. The greatest
casualty in Bangladesh is the truth.
