Latif Siddiqui may be a renowned freedom fighter. But that is besides the point. Even if he were a street beggar, a rickshaw puller or a street vendor, as a Bangladeshi he has all the rights of 'freedom of expression' (given by the national constitution and the international 'Human Rights Act'). More than a month ago, only few days after his New York hotel speech, I published an article in the bdnews24 (http://opinion.bdnews24.com/2014/10/07/what-happened-to-%E2%80%98freedom-of-speech%E2%80%99/) clearly stating that he had only expressed his person opinion regarding Hajj and Tablig. But the bigoted Bangladeshis, both in New York and at home, started demanding his imprisonment for 14 years and even asking him to be beheaded! These are the Muslim barbarians. I condemn such barbaric attitude in the strongest possible terms. If this mob rule is allowed to prevail, then a section of this mob might demand beheading the other section of the mob in the name of religion. Thus Bangladesh will descend into a land of human animals beheading each other.

I fully agree with Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman. Minister Latif Siddiqi a renown Muktijuddha (freedom fighter) did not say anything new about Islamic hypocrisy which many others in the past also said the same thing. Freedom of speech has been guaranteed by the constitution of Bangladesh and BD govt. should never heed the foul cries of those anti-liberation razakar forces and should never hurt Latif Siddiqi only to bring deadly Islamic fanaticism and Islamic barbarity in Bangladesh just like Pakistan. BD govt. should look to Pakistan before they do anything to punish Latif Siddiqui only for his freedom expressions.

Those Police officers stationed at the Airport should be sacked for their negligencies as well as State Minister for Home Affaires should answer to the nation under what circunmstances his forces failed to arrest this enemy of Islam who has arrest warrant from the court."Islamer Dushmon Loittya Nipat Jak"Those who supported Loitta should seek apology to the nation.কারাফটকে লতিফ সিদ্দিকীর ঔদ্ধত্য২৫ নভেম্বর,২০১৪নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদকআরটিএনএনঢাকা: দলে এবং দলের বাইরে ঔদ্ধত্যের জন্যই সবার কাছে আবদুল লতিফ সিদ্দিকী পরিচিত। তার ঔদ্ধত্য থেকে রক্ষা পাননি সরকারি কর্মকর্তা থেকে শুরু করে দলের নেতাকর্মীরাও।আর নিউইয়র্কে ঔদ্ধত্যের সেই সীমা ছাড়ায় ইসলাম, হজ ও মহানবী (সা.) সম্পর্কে আপত্তিকর মন্তব্য করার মাধ্যমে। সর্বশেষ কারাগারে ঢুকতে গিয়েও সেই ঔদ্ধত্যই প্রকাশ করলেন লতিফ সিদ্দিকী।ধর্মীয় উস্কানির অভিযোগে গ্রেপ্তারি পরোয়ানা মাথায় নিয়ে দেশে ফেরার এক দিন পর মঙ্গলবার দুপুরে ধানমন্ডি থানায় আত্মসমর্পণ করেন টাঙ্গাইলের এই সংসদ সদস্য।এরপর তাকে ঢাকার মুখ্য মহানগর হাকিম আদালতে হাজির করা হলে বিচারক আতিকুর রহমান লতিফকে কারাগারে পাঠানোর আদেশ দেন। অবশ্য তিনি কোনো আইনজীবী নিয়োগ দেননি এবং জামিন আবেদনও করেননি।এরপর আইনজীবীদের জুতা হাতে মিছিলের মধ্যেই পুলিশের একটি প্রিজন ভ্যান সাবেক এই প্রভাবশালী মন্ত্রীকে নিয়ে আদালতপাড়া থেকে ঢাকা কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগারে পৌঁছায়।বেলা ৩টা ৪২ মিনিটে প্রিজন ভ্যান থেকে নেমে কারাগারের মূল ফটকের সামনে এসে বেঁকে বসেন লতিফ। উপস্থিত পুলিশ কর্মকর্তাদের সাফ জানিয়ে দেন, তাকে ভেতরে নিতে হলে কারাগারের মূল ফটক খুলতে হবে।লতিফ সিদ্দিকীর দম্ভ, 'আমি এখনো এমপি। গত ৩০ বছর আমি পকেট গেট দিয়ে ইন বা আউট হইনি।'কারা কর্মকর্তারা জানান, ইস্পাতের তৈরি মূল ফটকের গায়ে লাগোয়া ছোট আকারের 'পকেট ফটক' দিয়েই তারা আসামি ও কয়েদিদের আনা নেয়া করেন। প্রিজন ভ্যান ও গাড়ি ঢোকানোর দরকার হলে অথবা বিশেষ প্রয়োজনে মূল ফটক খোলা হয়।পুলিশ সদস্য ও কারা কর্মকর্তারা বিষয়টি লতিফ সিদ্দিকীকে বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করেও ব্যর্থ হন।এদিকে, আদালত থেকে প্রিজন ভ্যানের পিছু নিয়ে আসা সংবাদকর্মীরা এ সময় লতিফ সিদ্দিকীর নাগাল পাওয়ার চেষ্টা করতে থাকেন। মরিয়া সংবাদকর্মীদের কাছ থেকে লতিফকে দূরে রাখতে এ সময় তাকে ঘিরে চক্র তৈরি করেন উপস্থিত পুলিশ কর্মকর্তারা।তারা বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করেন, এতো সংবাদকর্মীর এই ভিড়ের সামনে মূল ফটক খুলতে গেলে সামলানো কঠিন হবে। বরং তিনি দয়া করে পকেট ফটক দিয়ে ভেতরে গেলে অনেক ঝামেলাই এড়ানো সম্ভব।কিন্তু লতিফ তার অবস্থানে অনড় থাকেন, কারা ফটকে উত্তেজনাও বাড়তে থাকে। উপস্থিত পুলিশ কর্মকর্তারা এ সময় লতিফকে বোঝানোর চেষ্টা চালিয়ে যান। লতিফকেও তাদের সঙ্গে নিচু স্বরে কথা বলতে দেখা যায়।এরপর এক পর্যায়ে ঢাকা কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগারের সুপার ফরমান আলী বাইরে আসেন এবং ৩টা ৪২ মিনিটে প্রধান ফটক খুলে দেয়া হয়। ফরমান আলীর সঙ্গেই ভেতরে প্রবেশ করেন লতিফ সিদ্দিকী।পরে সাংবাদিকরা জানতে চাইলে ফরমান আলী বলেন, কোন ফটক দিয়ে কে কারাগারে ঢুকতে বা বের হতে পারবে, সে বিষয়ে তারা সুনির্দিষ্ট নিয়ম অনুসরণ করেন। কারাধ্যক্ষ বা জেলার চাইলে মূল ফটক খুলে ঢুকতে বা বের হতে পারেন।লতিফ সিদ্দিকীর ক্ষেত্রে নিয়মের ব্যত্যয় ঘটানোর বিষয়ে দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করা হলে তিনি বলেন, 'আমি ঢুকেছি, উনি আমার সঙ্গেই ঢুকেছেন। নিয়মের কোনো ব্যত্যয় হয়নি।'
