Bomb maker JCD man, violence victim student die
Mahbubur Rahman Bappy, 28, the JCD general secretary of Dhaka's New Market unit, was critically injured in an explosion in Lalbagh area yesterday.
His right wrist was blown off in the blast. Police said the explosion took place while Bappy was making a bomb he was planning to use for subversive activities inside Dhaka.
The explosion also riddled two minors – Happy Akhter, 13, a student of Azimpur Girls School, and six-year-old Ripon – with splinters. They were inside the room during the blast.
Taken to DMCH in a grave condition, Bappy succumbed to his injuries around 5:00am early today, said Mozammel Haque, in-charge DMCH police outpost.
Meanwhile, the student of Dhaka's Kabi Nazrul Government College, who had a crude bomb blast on his face on January 14 succumbed at DMCH around 1:00am, the police official said.
Ovi was along with two of his friends when the crude bomb came out of nowhere and exploded and blew away his face in Gulistan area. Doctors had feared the injury might prove critical.
And it had. After seven days of fighting for life, the 19-year-old who had to work part-time to support his education, was conquered by death.
