The BNP has demanded punishment for those involved in torching of a bus that left four persons dead in Rangpur during its non-stop transport blockade.
The party made the demand in a media statement issued on Wednesday.
Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi blamed the government for the incident and prayed for dead and extended sympathies to the bereaved families.
Failing to leave her office to lead anti-government protests on Jan 5, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia announced a countrywide non-stop blockade of highways, railways and waterways.
Four passengers, including a child, were burned alive when the bus was set on fire at Mitthapukur in Rangpur by pro-blockade elements on Tuesday night.
Several other passengers were hospitalised with various degrees of burns.
The government and the BNP-led alliance are engaged in a blame game over the arson and deaths.
Rizvi said: "Those who shot BNP chairperson's Adviser Reaz Rahman and set his car ablaze on Tuesday night has hurled petrol bombs at the passenger bus in Rangpur."

Blockade Day 10: The opposition has continued with their countrywide blockade, defying the brutal BKSAL fascist repression, backed by India. The govt. has taken up a vicious plan of crushing the 20-party alliance and wipe them out as a political force. The opposition leaders are determined to continue with the blockade until their demand for fresh election under neutral caretaker govt. is met. The opposition may intensify the movement with hartal and non-cooperation.
The opposition held hartal in 9 districts today (13 Jan). As on previous days, since 3 January, the country has still remained paralysed, with Dhaka still cut off from the rest of the country, and itself semi-paralysed too. At least 30 vehicles were torched last night and many others attacked and damaged throughout the country. Trains were disconnected and attacked. Many cocktail attacks took place, many were arrested and many wounded. Many bombs exploded in Dhaka at night. A 24-hour countrywide hartal has been called from Thursday 6am, in protest of attack on Reaz Rahman. The police is finding it difficult, as the activists are using guerrilla tactics and often oprtating at night. The police are also getting tired with extra long hours of duty, according to reports.
Khaleda, still besieged at her Gulshan Office since 3 January 2015, said, the movement started with the aim of establishing democracy by ousting the govt., and she urged the people to join the nonstop countrywide blockade. Riaz Rahman was shot today as he came out after seeing Khaleda, he was seriously wounded, and is in the United Hospital in critical condition, his car was set on fire by the attackers, thought to be BKSAL elements using motor bikes. Leader of the Jamaat, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, called for taking the movement to the final phase. He said, people have come out on the streets, they will go back home with victory achieved. Demand of the people: the illegal govt. must resign and hand over power to a neutral caretaker govt.

মঙ্গলবার রাতে এক বিবৃতিতে তিনি বলেন, 'ন্যক্কারজনক সন্ত্রাসী ঘটনায় আমি যুগপৎভাবে ক্ষুব্ধ ও উদ্বিগ্ন। এই সন্ত্রাসী হামলা ও প্রাণনাশের অপচেষ্টার নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদের কোনো ভাষা নেই।'
