Re: [mukto-mona] Color blindness of Rabindranath Tagore

Tagore might have been a colorblind but that had never came from his own mouth as far as we know. The talks between him and his friends are too sketchy to conclude anything. We do not know whether his colorblindness was partial or complete? Was he diagnosed by a doctor? Probably not. This X-liked trait should have been manifested in some of his other brothers if we go by random segregation of X in the mother's eggs. Had anybody been diagnosed with colorblindness in his family (brothers)? I am little skeptical about this new revelation.

My skepticism  comes from Tagore profound description of the nature. If he were a totally colorblind, he would have missed a great deal of nature beauty. But his vast works do not show any symptom of such colorblindness. I would need some better evidences to put that man in the colorblind box. Thank you.

In medical terms, Tagore was affected by '
Protonopia', a  condition resulting from insensitivity to red light, causing confusion of greens, reds, and yellows. It is hereditary and is the most common form of color-blindness.

Read my article you will get tons of evidences for it -

Paintings

At sixty, Tagore took up drawing and painting; successful exhibitions of his many works—which made a debut appearance in Paris upon encouragement by artists he met in the south of France[100]—were held throughout Europe. He was likely red-green color blind, resulting in works that exhibited strange colour schemes and off-beat aesthetics.
