Let me come to the point. Depending on the demographic composition of the population, politics of appeasement may become an essential strategy of a political party. Sometimes it is not appeasement, it is simply compromising with the evil forces. You are pointing finger to the secular forces, but you may remember that Vajpayee was in power for the full term. Could he be courageous to take a bold step? Probably not. He was an experienced politically wise man but he also failed in this respect. What did Modi do? Before election he distributed Islamic caps and borkhas? Now he has majority in the parliament. Let us see what he can do about possible uniform laws. It is a challenge for the leaders in a multilingual, multi religious, multi tribal, and multi in every respect. Moreover he has his own Hindutvabadi agenda for implementation of some of which he has to spend some time. Nathuram Godse project is one of them.

According to Hindu scripture, if a girl sees her menstrual blood before wedding, her father would be condemned to hell after death. Gouridan occurred before the age of eight. Mrinalini Devi, wife of Tagore, gave birth to her first child by the age of twelve. By the contemporary law, Tagore would be in jail for statutory rape. Child marriage is Sunnah, as she is not used as food, I am not sure if the word halal is appropriate or not.

Mr. Chaudhury's problem is that he becomes defensive without understanding the subject. You talk about child marriage being endorsed by a grand mufti but he takes that as insult on Islam? Mr. Chaudhury brings Delhi's rape victims as an antidote to the child marriage argument. So, he basically justifies both criminal acts?
