Today our Awami League Government carried out the execution of another notorious war criminal, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman. He was convicted in court for genocide. On July 25, 1971 he led the Pakistan Army to the village of Sohagpur, where they killed 120 men and raped their women. Sohagpur became known as the "village of widows". Three of those widows testified against him in court. He appealed his conviction all the way to our Supreme Court, which in its ruling against him called his crimes "worse than those of the Nazis".
Today 44 years later the widows of Sohagpur have received justice. In the face of intense international lobbying by BNP-Jamaat to save the war criminals, only Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Government have the courage to bring justice to the people of Bangladesh.

আজ আমাদের আওয়ামীলীগ সরকার আরও একজন দুর্ধর্ষ যুদ্ধাপরাধী মোহাম্মদ কামারুজ্জামানের সর্বোচ্চ সাজা মৃত্যুদণ্ড কার্যকর করল। ১৯৭১ সালের ২৫শে জুলাই সোহাগপুর গ্রামে ১২০জন মানুষকে গণহত্যা ও ধর্ষণের দায়ে মাননীয় আদালত তাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করেন। সেই ভয়াবহ গণহত্যার পর সোহাগপুরের পরিচয় হয়ে উঠে 'বিধবা পল্লী' নামে। সে গ্রামেরই ৩ জন বিধবা তার বিরুদ্ধে আদালতে সাক্ষ্য দেন। রায় পুনর্বিবেচনার প্রেক্ষিতে সুপ্রিম কোর্টে আবেদন করলে মাননীয় আদালত কামারুজ্জামানের যুদ্ধাপরাধকে নাৎসি বাহিনীর চেয়েও ভয়াবহ বলে রায়ে উল্লেখ করেন।
আজ ৪৪ বছর পরে সোহাগপুরে বিধবারা ন্যায্য বিচার পেলেন। আন্তর্জাতিক মহলে বিএনপি-জামায়াতের ব্যাপক তদবির সত্ত্বেও কেবল মাত্র প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ও তার সরকারের দৃঢ়তা আর সাহসী অবস্থানের কারণে বিচার পেয়েছে বাংলাদেশের জনগণ।
