RE: [mukto-mona] On Mowlana Bhasani again

I have a 1st Edition copy of 'Clash of Fundamentalisms' signed by Tariq Ali. The book is not with me here in Dhaka.  The theme of the book had to do with the horrible neo-con politics  of George W, Bush (whose face was photoshopped on Osama bin Laden's body), and who was featured on the Cover, and the public concerns on the eve of Iraq war.

I don't recall any chapter, or discussion, or  context in this book where Tariq might bring up Bangladesh and its past political history and the persons prominent in it.  Why would there be

This is not the first time Kamal Das was caught lying.  Listen to the disgusting way he described Bhasani's life here.  He keeps exposing his  true lowly self again and again . . .

I have told you that before. Bhasani the late octogenarian wanted Young Tariq Ali as his secretary. The later found out the former an ignoramus on international affairs and incommunicable person as he did not know any international language or even Arabic. Bhasani acquired his name by slaughtering an ox in a river island named Bhasan in Brahmaputra. He was made President of Assam Muslim League by the Ispahani clique. His movement in East Bengal was organized against Hindu landlords, but in support of Muslim ones. His political movement was always geared to subvert the real nationalistic motion by the people. He had no grassroot organization. Those trying to eulogize him are making fiction. He was a Chinese agent in the subcontinental politics. One doesn't need to be much of a political analyst to comprehend it.

I have to collect the book and then read. Why don't you help us by saying exactly what Tariq Ali said on Bhasani?

I have read some of Tariq Ali's writings. He has emphatically recognized Bhasani's contribution. I don't know where he has done otherwise. Can some one please share on this with us?

This fiction published by the Bhasani Foundation, is partially available on the net. It is written by a bunch of reactionaries. To get a better idea on him, one may read "Clash of Cultures" by Tariq Ali.

I have heard about a collection of articles on   Mowlana Bhasani, from New York.in 2012

Moulana Bhashani. Leader of the Toiling Masses:Anthology on Bangladesh's legendary Sufi sage and firebrand politician ( ed Peter Custers), but looking at the contents, it seems to be an anthology in praising Bhashani.

The publisher's note states,"A true humanist of his time, for most of his adult life, Moulana Bhashani was a Sufi Pir (sage) as well as a political leader. A Sufi Pir, he preached - and practiced - religious tolerance and egalitarianism. A secular politician, he fought for social justice, inclusion and democratic rights.Moulana Bhashani viewed society through a class lens - the oppressed and the oppressors - regardless of their religion, caste or ethnicity. With rising religious intolerance and socio-economic inequities, the world is sorely in need of a principled leader the likes of Moulana Bhashani.

This volume traces the many facets of Moulana Bhashani's political career and religious philosophies, with contributions by leading researchers, political followers and journalists familiar with his life. In addition to discovering the extraordinary life of the Moulana, the authors also provide an excellent exposition of the socio-economic and political situations of Assam, Bengal and East Pakistan, as well as of Bangladesh during the first few years of its independence."
