Let me tell few things friends. I was physically present in the near history, I have watched Moulana Bhashani through my formative ages very closely.  That influenced my political ideas and shaped in to the left wing inclination. The NAP secretary was Mr. Moshiur Rahman who was from our constituency Domar-Dimla ( Nilphamari 2 now). Several times I have watched them very closely. Moulana has visited our home at Domar since my uncle Mr.Mozammel Hossain was Domar Thana NAP president fro long time.

If you read " Gram Banglar Pothe Pothe"  written by Sattayen Sen., you will find the role of Domar in Thevaga andolon of Agnijug and beyond.  At Domar there was a entire Bangla "Pradeshic Krishok Sommelon" before the partition of India.  I am the son of that soil who has the eyewitness history imprinted in the soul.

Please understand history is two pronged. One, is by reading and feeling it, which is as knowledge without being present in it. Other one, is own memories of events which rolled through your own life, you watched it, you touched it and internalised it and those are imprinted and ingrained in you.

I also have watched the activities in public plus Ghoroa meetings of the then Agni konna Begum Matia choudhury, Amena Begum of AL, comrade Matin promukh those visited Domar for several occasions on those historic times of our political evolution.

Those might be not enough to give a complete picture of a political giant like Moulana Bhashani, but all those will give conviction to some one of real life situation of what happened in the past.

Before making "wise" comments, one should study how political events occur, who provide funds and what repercussions these events create? Bhasani's actions led to the extinction of his political party. About seven decades earlier a man named Jogen Mandal had great role in the creation of East Pakistan, read history to find out what happened to him and his power base.

No one expect all will be angels in politics. The human being do mistakes. When time changes the actions of the past can be interpreted in a critical way. But above all the intention of the actions must be judged. One can be an expert sitting in the audience gallery to criticise the players. But the criticizer would be the least capable to handle the game.

But all will probably agree that there were/are politicians and intellectuals in every nation those who are power grabby, shrewd and with evil intentions.  Some of them do it knowingly (devils) and some of them unknowingly (because of their blind convictions).

Thus Chakrabarty and Mushrafi flock together in support of a devious and dubious Mawlana Bhasani who lacked formal education, was not even a graduated mawlana, learned Arabic only by rote of the holy Quran. He hailed from Serajganj, left home after stealing a cow from his peasant father who insisted on his attention to formal education, and ultimately got included in the pay roll of Ispahani as a Muslim League cadre before the partition of India. He was an opportunist as always. From "Don't disturb Ayub" to "Kick the ballot box" policies he adopted, he proved his role as a B-team leader to the ruling oligarchy in Pakistan. As he was denied a role after the military crackdown, he became subversive and remained so till his end.

I said Bangladeshis are, in general, communal because in the olden days we could not tolerate the 'Biharis' and the Hindus. After independence we got rid of the Biharis, but cannot tolerate the Hindus and now there are rumblings that the Ahmadis, Shias and other non-Sunnis are to be got rid of. Aren't these blatant signs of communalism? How nice a country could have been without such sectarianism and communalism!

And as regards selfishness, it goes without saying that almost everybody in the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) is selfish. There are, of course, some exceptions. However, among this selfish genre, the religious people are more selfish that others. The main reason is that the religious people have to spend money in the name of God ('kurbani', 'jakat', 'Hajj' etc) on top of the State taxes and quite often they acquire such extra money by resorting to all sorts of illegal means.

Personally I have huge respect for Bhasani. I don't see when he betrayed common people. He was always ahead in every progressive movement. If he were alive, he would have alliance with Jamaat-Islami! Alliance in what sense? The kind of alliance BNP has? I doubt. The kind of invisible alliance sometimes AL had or has? Might be, but as a strategy in a democratic movement.

Bangladeshis are extremely communal and selfish! I cannot quite agree with Dr. Rahman. It is a big topic.

Bhasani was not the man that people try to portray him as he was. If he were alive, I bet, the man would would have had an alliance with the Jamatis. Bluntly put, he was an erratic individual with too many contradictions. I am not sure what he was really standing or fighting for?

And, for Avijit, I do not think Bangladeshis really care much about him. He is just another name and people are already openly justifying his gruesome murder. That is our reality in Bangladesh. And it is not going to change anytime soon.
