It was the non-Bengali Muslim leadership of India who demanded for a separate homeland for Muslims, and the riot was the justification for the demand.
British had no gain in the division; they only paved the way for the division as per desire of Hindu-Muslim leaderships of India. Blaming British for the division or for the plights of the subcontinent is either out of ignorance or shifting the blame for the mistake on somewhere else. The biggest loser in the division has been Pakistan; it will go through a few more divisions before everything settles down in that land.

Why can't Bengalis or even the Indians never ever own up to their own misdeeds? The Hindus and Muslims in India could not agree to live together; started to kill each other and now it is stated that it was the fault of the British. If our leaders became the puppets of the British government, does it not tarnish us adversely and put us to shame that our leaders were so very stupid that they readily became puppets? What would you expect from such stupid leaders and their followers now?
