Women's Position in Society and Culture

Women are a part of human race; Islam also accepts it. We inherit our culture which was built up commonly by women and men. The culture of men and women are not different. However, it is important that children inherit culture more from the mothers because of closeness with them. So we cannot ignore the dominance of mother's role.
An important part of culture is the lifestyle. If we look at a different aspect such as Art as another part of culture. Now a days we see that a 'figuration' centered on women has become today's culture. Islam did not permit this. Islamic art rather meant stylization as culture such as in geometric formation( straight lines, squires,triangles etc) and use in many forms flowers and leaves of plants. It did not want women-centred stylization. For this very reason Islam has given more respectable place to women. It did not consider women on the basis of gender, rather placed her on an honorable place. Islam has an ideal level for women which does not exist in Western culture.. In Western culture art means images of kings and different poses of women.. A misuse of women is seen there, which does not exist in Islam. Islam dignified the Women .
If we come to modern age we see women are playing as a part of culture by participating in literature, drama and media especially in dance and singing; we see their role being comparatively sex-centred. I think it's a mental disease, a sexual obsession, a psychological disorder. It means bringing sexuality in every matter. This is simply unnecessary. Sexuality has a place of its own, not to be brought into every affair. But now it is drawn into every place- in drama, cinema, newspaper etc. Everywhere women are displayed as sex object, as in dance, songs, and men's role is poor. Furthermore, 'pornography' has emerged where women are main role-players. All ads are using women and are practically devaluing women in the name of empowerment of women.
Islam's model of culture is high and is based on Oneness of God.. We must oblige to Him. He is not an idol or statue. Islam has no illicitness. It has especially defined the dress and instructed to maintain sanctity, fairness. Al Quran has ordained decent dress l in Sura Araf; it's a must to maintain a balance between covering of a body and the beauty. This is practical, it does not disregard women. The West did it. In respect of contribution in culture, men and women have the same share/. As a whole, there is no scope to undercut women's contribution.
Women are not unaware of their being misused, but they are helpless in the face of materialism and a statehood without the moral base. They feel disturbed when they see fellow women in ads but can't oppose it. The harms of materialism and enjoyment theory spreads sexuality for promotion of market, to increase sale; same is true for capitalism also. It wants to increase profit, if necessary by promoting sexuality, no place is there for morality, no space for values in materialism. The motto is profit and loss, no place for humanity, justice; it may be there in leaps, not in the heart, not in practice.
So it is established that the influence of materialism is all pervading in public level, economic and marketing levels and women are being abused. We have to check it, but are struck up mentally. If women can honour men then why we men cannot honour women? The rules for a mother, wife and daughter may differ, but all of them are part mankind We seem to forget that they are also integral to Mankind.

সমাজ ও সংস্কৃতিতে নারীর অবস্থান

নারী মানবজাতির অংশ। ইসলামের দৃষ্টিতে পুরুষ ও নারী, উভয়ই মানবজাতির অংশ। সাংস্কৃতিক উত্তরাধিকার হিসেবে যেটা পেয়েছি, সে উত্তরাধিকারে আমরা বিশেষভাবে দেখতে পাই নারীদের ভূমিকা। নারী বা পুরুষের সংস্কৃতি আলাদা নয়। তবে কতগুলো বিষয় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হিসেবে দেখা যায়। যেমন, সংস্কৃতি উত্তরাধিকারের স্থানান্তর করা। অর্থাৎ প্রজন্মের কাছে উত্তরাধিকারের কাছে স্থানান্তর বিষয়টির দিকে লক্ষ করলে দেখা যায়,এটা মায়েরাই বেশি করেছেন। মায়েদের সাথেই তার সন্তানদের বেশি ঘনিষ্ঠতা থাকে। তাদের মাধ্যমেই কৃষ্টি-কালচার সন্তানদের মধ্যে বেশি প্রবেশ করে থাকে। মায়ের সাথেই সন্তানের বন্ধনটা বেশি থাকে। অন্যদেরও সংস্কৃতির উত্তরাধিকারের ক্ষেত্রে ভূমিকা অবশ্যই থাকে; কিন্তু মায়েদের ভূমিকাটাই বেশি। এটা আমরা স্বীকার না করে পারি না।
সংস্কৃতির সাথে আরেকটি ইস্যু হচ্ছে- আমাদের যে সংস্কৃতির বিকাশ হয়েছে, সংস্কৃতিকে যে বিভিন্ন ভাগে ভাগ করি, তার প্রধান অংশ হলো জীবনাচার। যদি আমরাএটাকে অন্য দিকে নিয়ে যাই, যেমন আর্টের ক্ষেত্রে- আর্টকে যদি সংস্কৃতির অংশ হিসেবে নিয়ে আসি,বিষয় তাহলে আমরা সেখানে আজকাল যে বিষয় দেখতে পাই সেটি হলো নারীকেন্দ্রিক ফিগারাইজেশন। আজকে এটাই বেশি চলছে। নারীকে যেভাবে আজ উপস্থাপন করা হয় সেটিই হয়ে গেছে আজকের 'আর্ট'। এটা আমরা ইসলামের ক্ষেত্রে দেখিনি। ইসলাম আর্টকে দেখিয়েছে স্টাইলাইজেশন, অর্থাৎ লতা-পাতার অথবা জ্যামিতিক ফর্মের স্টাইলাইজেশন। ইসলাম নারীর ফিগারাইজেশন চায়নি। এ কারণেই ইসলামে নারীর মর্যাদা রক্ষিত হয়েছে অনেক বেশি। ইসলাম নারীকে যৌনতার আলোকে বিচার করেনি। বরং তাকে আদর্শ মর্যাদায় অধিষ্ঠিত করেছে। ইসলামে নারীর একটি আইডিয়াল লেভেল আছে, যা পাশ্চাত্যে নেই। পাশ্চাত্যে আর্ট মানেই হচ্ছে রাজা-বাদশাহদের চিত্র বা নারীর নানা ভঙ্গির চিত্র। সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রে নারীর এভাবে একটা অপব্যবহার আমরা দেখি। ইসলামে নারীকে সম্মান করতে দেখা গেছে।
আমরা যদি আধুনিককালে ফিরে আসি তাহলে দেখতে পাই- নারী সংস্কৃতির একটা অংশ হিসেবে সাহিত্যে, নাটকে, মিডিয়াতে ভূমিকা রাখছে প্রধানত নাচে ও গানে। আমরা দেখি, নারীর উপস্থাপন তুলনামূলকভাবে যৌনতাকেন্দ্রিক হয়ে যাচ্ছে। আমার মতে- এটা একটা মানসিক রোগ। এটা যৌনতাকেন্দ্রিক একটা অবসেশন (Obsession), এটা মনোবিকার। অর্থাৎ সব কিছুতে একটা যৌনতা নিয়ে আসা। সবখানে যৌনতা আনার তো কোনো প্রয়োজন নেই। যৌনতার নির্দিষ্ট একটা ক্ষেত্র আছে। অথচ সবখানেই আজ এটা হয়ে গেছে। তদুপরি, সেই যৌনতার বিস্তার ঘটেছে নারীকে কেন্দ্র করে। নাটক,সিনেমা, পত্রপত্রিকার বেশির ভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই তাই হয়েছে। নাচে, গানে সবখানেই নারীকে প্রধান হিসেবে উপস্থাপন করা হচ্ছে। এ ক্ষেত্রে পুরুষের ভূমিকা খুব কম; নারীই প্রধান হয়ে গেছে। তা ছাড়া পর্নোগ্রাফির বিষয়টি তো আছেই। সেখানে নারীকে পর্নোগ্রাফির প্রধান চরিত্র হিসেবে তুলে ধরা হচ্ছে। বিজ্ঞাপনে নারীকে যেভাবে দেখানো হচ্ছে, তা তো আছেই। প্রকৃতপক্ষে সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রে সার্বিকভাবে পাশ্চাত্য প্যাটার্নে নারীর অবমূল্যায়নই হচ্ছে। নারীকে 'মর্যাদা দেয়া হচ্ছে' বলা হয়; কিন্তু আমরা নারীর অমর্যাদাই দেখতে পাচ্ছি। এটা তাদের লক্ষ্য কি না জানি না, তবে এটাই বাস্তবতা।
এ দিক থেকে ইসলামের যে সংস্কৃতির মডেল, তা অত্যন্ত উন্নত। এটা তাওহিদভিত্তিক। স্রষ্টা বা সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে মানতে হবে। তিনি এক ও একমাত্র। মূর্তি বা দেবী নন। এ দিকটা খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। অন্য দিকে ইসলামে কোনো ধরনের অশ্লীলতা নেই। বিশেষ করে পোশাকের ব্যাপারে কুরআন স্পষ্ট করে দিয়েছে যে, পোশাকের ব্যাপারে শালীনতা বজায় রাখতে হবে। তাকওয়ার একটা গুরুত্ব এখানে রয়েছে। আল কুরআনের সূরাতুল আরাফে শরীর ঢেকে রাখার কথা বলা হয়েছে। পোশাকের অন্য উদ্দেশ্য, সৌন্দর্য বর্ধন। এ দুটোর মধ্যে ব্যালেন্স করতে হবে। ইসলামের দৃষ্টিতে এটাই সঠিক ও বাস্তবসম্মত। অথচ অভিযোগ করা হচ্ছে, ইসলামই নারীকে অবমূল্যায়ন করেছে; কিন্তু আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি, ইসলামেই নারীর অধিকার ও মর্যাদা সবচেয়ে বেশি। ইসলামই তাকে মর্যাদা দিচ্ছে সবচেয়ে বেশি,তার যা কিছু অবমূল্যায়ন তা পাশ্চাত্যই করছে।
সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রে নারীর অবদান কী? সেই ক্ষেত্রে আমি বলব অবদান সমানই। আমাদের আচার-আচরণে, ফ্যামিলি লাইফে, ওঠা-বসায়, সংস্কৃতির ক্ষেত্রে পুরুষ ও নারীর ভূমিকার পার্থক্য তেমন দেখছি না। তবে উত্তরাধিকার ট্রান্সফারের ক্ষেত্রে তার অবদানকে বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হিসেবে দেখতে হবে, যেটা আগেই আলোচনা করা হয়েছে। সার্বিকভাবে নারীর অবদান কোনোভাবেই হালকা করে দেখার বা ভাবার উপায় নেই।
নারীদের বর্তমান অপব্যবহার এমন নয় যে তারা এ ব্যাপারে অসচেতন। তবে নারীরা অসহায়। বস্তুবাদের প্রভাবও আছে। নৈতিকতাহীন রাষ্ট্রব্যবস্থায় তারা কিছু করতে পারে না; কিন্তু তারা যখন অন্য নারীকে বিজ্ঞাপনচিত্রে দেখে, তখন কষ্ট পায়। এটা তো আমাদের ক্ষেত্রেও সত্য। আমরা যখন নাটকে এসব দেখি, কষ্ট পাই। কিন্তু আমরা কী করতে পারি?
বস্তুবাদের যে কথা বলা হয়, তা ঠিকই। আসলে বস্তুবাদ ও পুঁজিবাদ তো ক্ষতি করছেই। বস্তুবাদের এক অর্থ নাস্তিকতা ধরনের চিন্তাধারা অন্য অর্থ ভোগবাদ, যেভাবে পারো মানুষের মধ্যে যৌনতাকে ছড়িয়ে দাও। এর মাধ্যমে বাজার বাড়াও, বিক্রি করো। ক্যাপিটালিজমেও একই কথা। ক্যাপিটালিজম মুনাফা চায়। মুনাফা যত পারে, বাড়াতে চায়। তারা যদি মনে করে, যৌনতাকে বিক্রি করে তা করা যায়, তখন তারা তাই করবে এবং করছে। সেখানে নৈতিকতা বা মোরালিটির স্থান নেই। বস্তুবাদেও মূল্যবোধের স্থান নেই। এখানে মূল বিষয় হচ্ছে, লাভ কোথায়? লোকসান কোথায়? এখানে মানবতার,জাস্টিসের স্থান নেই। আসলেই এখানে এগুলোর কোনো স্থান নেই। মুখে হয়তো কিছুটা আছে; কিন্তু অন্তরে নেই, বাস্তবায়নে নেই।
সুতরাং এ কথা ঠিক- বস্তুবাদ ও পুঁজিবাদের প্রভাব নানাভাবে পাবলিক লেভেলে,ইকোনমিক লেভেলে এবং মার্কেটিং লেভেলে পড়েছে। এটা প্রত্যক্ষ বা পরোক্ষ যেভাবেই হোক, পড়েছে। বস্তুবাদের প্রভাব এখন সব কিছুতেই পড়ছে। নারীরা অ্যাবিউজড হচ্ছে। কিন্তু তারা যাতে অ্যাবিউজড না হয় সে দিকে খেয়াল রাখতে হবে। আমরা আসলে একটা অদ্ভুত মানসিক জটের মধ্যে আটকে গেছি। ফলে আমরা এগোতে পারছি না। নারীরা যদি পুরুষদের মর্যাদা ও সম্মান দিতে পারে, তাহলে পুরুষরা কেন নারীদের যথাযথ মর্যাদা,সম্মান দিতে পারবে না? মায়ের ক্ষেত্রে এক নিয়ম, স্ত্রীর ক্ষেত্রে আরেক নিয়ম, মেয়ের ক্ষেত্রে আরেক নিয়ম; কিন্তু তারা সবাই তো এক নারীজাতির অংশ। এটাও আমরা ভুলে যাই যে,তারা মানবজাতিরও একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ।
