[ALOCHONA] On an average three cases of repression on the members of the Hindu minority community have been taking place every day - since the Awami League government came to power

Repression on the members of the Hindu minority is still going on in various forms across the country even under the present Awami League government which is very vocal in safeguarding the interests of the minority communities.

Abduction of the members of the minority community, rape and eviction from their ancestral homes are still rampant, according to a human rights group in the capital.

On an average three cases of repression on the members of the Hindu minority community have been taking place every day here and there in the country since the Awami League government came to power after the general election of December last year. These incidents have been occurring despite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's promise to ensure the safety and security of the members of the minority communities in the country, according to the rights group.

The human rights group also lamented the complete indifference of the present government in taking any initiative in annulling the Vested Property Act. Vast properties of the tens of thousands of members of the minority communities especially Hindu community were grabbed by influential political leaders and their henchmen taking full advantage of the controversial Vested Property Act, according to the group.

Citing an example, the group referred to the demolition of a 150 years old Shiva temple and eviction of nine members of Hindu family at Rhishikesh Das lane under Sutrapur Police Station in Dhaka city allegedly by the supporters of Awami League a few days ago

Owner of the house Mohabir Das at the Rhishikesh Das Lane told reporters that they were abducted by the members of the ruling party and taken to a nearby worokshop named Janata Engineering. Though the police of the Sutrapur police station knew the kidnappers and the persons who demolished the temple they refrained from taking punitive measures against the wrong doers for mysterious reasons.

Though four persons were nabbed by the police in this connection the main culprits behind the plot of their eviction and forcible occupation of their houses are yet to be hooked, locals.
