Indian Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday opened fire on Bangladeshi cattle traders at Chouka border point under Shibganj upazila.
BDR and locals said, BSF at Sobdelpur camp in Maldah district of West Bengal opened fire on the cattle traders when they approached Chouka border at about 4:00 am.
However, there was no report of any casualty.
BSF shot dead 12 Bangladeshis and injured seven others along the border areas of three upazilas in the district last year, reports UNB.
Locals said BSF troops open indiscriminate fire on the villagers when they go to their crop fields or graze cattles in border areas.
Sources said the Indian border guards last year killed Monir Hossain, 28, on Poladanga border in Sadar upazila, Hablu, 21, Based Ali, 23, and another unidentified man on Chouka border, Hobu, 35, and Rafiq, 34, on Chakpara border, Abdur Rahim, 36, on Singnagar border, Subed Ali, 24, and Matiur Rahman, 28, on Telkupi border in Shibganj upazila and Lalchan, 22, Saiful, 40, and Jamirul on Bangabari border in Gomostapur upazila.
The injured were identified as Tozammel, 35, Moinur, 40, Jalil, 30,Raqib, 40, Rafiquil, 28, Yusuf, 30, and Bablu.
BDR sources said several flag meetings were held with the BSF personnel protesting the killings but they did not stop the killing.
