The
Sources in the college administration said the academic council at a meeting in the afternoon decided the suspension amid a daylong demonstration by the students who demanded punitive action against the Chhatra League men.
The students who were suspended are the college unit Chhatra League joint secretaries Asibul Islam Limon and Kazi Mohammed Foysal and activists Sohag and Rabbi. The college unit Chhatra League also expelled them on the same charges after a meeting held on Monday night.
The college principal, Professor Selim Mohammad Jahangir, told New Age they had decided to suspend the studentship of the four after a discussion and the disciplinary committee would make the final decision after further investigation.
The college unit Chhatra League general secretary, Fahad Nasif, said they had expelled the four from the organisation as the allegation brought against them was proved after preliminary investigation.
Students of the college earlier brought out a procession at the campus demanding punishment for the persons responsible for the incident. A human chain was also formed, a rally held and sit-in staged in front of the principal's office to push for the demand.
