Dhaka, Nov 21 (bdnews24.com) — BNP has termed the bomb attack on the residence of chief justice as pre-planned only to harass the opposition.

BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain brought the allegation on Sunday at a press briefing at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.

Delwar claimed that the timing of the incident, the visit of home minister, law sate minister and RAB director general, as well as filing of a general diary clearly betray that it had been planned out.

Pointing his finger at the government, he said that "they" were conspiring to foil BNP's campaign.

A case was filed against five opposition leaders, he said.

"Although no name was included in the general diary, the case details include names of five BNP leaders including Juba Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal, BNP's human rights affairs secretary Nasiruddin Asim, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Akhter Hamid Paban," Delwar said.

Referring to the general diary, Delwar said that the plaintiff did not recognise any of the miscreants.

He also pointed out that the case says the incident had occurred at 8.30pm on Nov 18, and the home minister, law state minister and police officials got to the spot at 9pm long before the case was filed.

Delwar claimed the events clearly show that they were deliberate.

He damned the government for the act. He also said his younger son Paban was under medical treatment.

The former chief whip warned the government that false cases against its leaders and 'running a steam-roller' on the opposition would not thwart the BNP campaign.

"The previous caretaker government tried to annihilate the BNP, but did not succeed. This government will also fail," he added.

JS BOYCOTT

Asked if the party is going to join the parliament's seventh session, Delwar said: "Day by day the environment inside the house is becoming less and less congenial."

The ninth parliament session begins on Dec 5. The main opposition has boycotted the parliament's fourth, fifth and sixth sessions.

Referring to the majority inside the parliament, Delwar said: "The ruling Awami League is abusing its majority inside the house."
