In the last paragraph of the article, lamenting on Hasina-Ershad alliance, the writer Sohrab Hasan has written:
"গণতন্ত্রের সাচ্চা সিপাহসালার আওয়ামী লীগের সঙ্গে পতিত স্বৈরাচারের সখ্য আমাদের শঙ্কিত ও উদ্বিগ্ন করে।"
("The alliance of Awami League, the true commander-in-chief of democracy, with fallen despotism makes us apprehensive and anxious"), while the whole of the article has been devoted to Ershad's despotism and political trickery.
When the writer eulogises BAL as the 'true commander-in-chief of democracy', he indulges in reckless falsehood and prevarication. Mujib's despotic regime, totally controlled by India, slaughtered 30,000 patriotic opponents, sealed off all avenues of democracy by its terror and repression and, through mindless corruption, caused the man-made famine of 1974, in which three to five hundred thousand people perished.
The present puppet regime of Hasina came to power through a conspiratorial alliance of India-US(Bush), which supervised the election of 2008 and arranged to rig it with ballot paper stuffing under military deployment, to produce a pre-determined result. Ershad said of this election that this govt would never come to power without the help of the military, while Jalil said that this govt came to power through 'understanding' (with India-US, CTG and army). The rule of this govt is totally despotic. Although the three govts between 1991 and 2006 were elected through acceptable elections by the standards of developing countries, their rules were more despotic than democratic.
Again, this is not the first time that Ershad and Hasina has been allies. Hasina was an ally of Ershad in Ershad's heydays of power. When Ershad govt was tottering, only then Hasina joined half-heartedly the movement for democracy. Ershad was an ally of Hasina during her govt between 1996 to 2001.
So, it can be said that Sohrab Hasan is only trying to mislead and delude the people.
