[ALOCHONA] Prof Yunus - please get into politics!

In light of the hostility of the government and the ruling party, there is only one response that makes sense - Prof Yunus should launch himself into politics.

Forget all the rubbish about natural constituency and party organisation. This is not required for the very specific role that Prof Yunus can play.

Who speaks with any credibility for the ordinary Bangladeshi today? Certainly not the hypocrites, looters, criminals and traitors that form the rank and file of the mainstream parties.

Irrespective of ballot success what we do know is that Prof Yunus WILL be heard - both at home and abroad. We know that Prof Yunus also has unfettered access to the corridors of power in the world - also a place where his voice will be heard. Witness Imran Khan who's every press conference is well attended and reported by domestic and international reporters alike.

Irrespective of the controversies over micro-finance no one can doubt the sincerity of Prof Yunus' (or Abed's BRAC) efforts in poverty alleviation. That's more than can be said for every political leader since 1971 (yes, I include Mujib).

Prof Yunus can speak. He will be doing the nation the greatest service since the freedom fighters if he were to do so. The politicians fear him. That in itself means he should.

I believe that many will welcome such a move. And even if only a handful will do so publicly, I am sure he knows that he has many supporters who do not have access to the microphone.....yet.
