Ruling ally chides soaring prices
Dhaka, Mar 1 (bdnews24.com) — Voicing concern over the soaring prices of essentials, a key member of the ruling alliance has put forward a 16-point suggestion to address the problem.
Bangladesh Workers Party general secretary Anisur Rahman Mallik presented the suggestions based on the findings of a market evaluation at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme, titled 'Soaring prices and food security,' Mallik said, "People are in trouble as prices have gone beyond their reach only six months after the incumbent government took office."
He said the prices were still on the rise despite full harvests of Boro and Aman rice.
To get rid of the problem, Rahman put forward the 16 suggestions, including countrywide distribution of essentials like rice, flour and edible oil through rations, establishing a watchdog to control prices, and ensuring government control and strengthening the retail and wholesale markets.
