Dhaka, Mar 20 (bdnews24.com) Visiting US assistant secretary of state Robert O Blake has asked the government to 'compromise' on Yunus issue.
"I discussed with prime minister about Dr Yunus. I expressed our hope that a compromise can be found that will again ensure independence and integrity of Grameen Bank," Blake told reporters on Sunday after a meeting with foreign secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes.
Blake met prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the morning.
The US assistant secretary arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a four-day visit and he met leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia on Saturday.
"I'll leave it to the prime minister to describe their own position," he said adding, "There is a room for a compromise."
"Such a compromise will allow us to continue good progress on our bilateral relations," he said.
Asked what was the prime minister's reaction, he said, "I'll let [the] prime minister characterise her own reaction."
Insisted whether the US government was asking for a compromise, US ambassador to Bangladesh James F Moriarty said, "Yes, compromise."
