8 hurt as Jubo League & BCL activists clash over jhut business in Ctg


Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra (BCL) activists clashed over jhut business and extortion, leaving eight injured at Alangkar Cinema Hall in Pahartali in the city on Saturday.Police said Awami League-backed businessman Morshedul Hasan bought cut-piece clothes worth about Tk 8 lakh from Dream Land Garments on Friday.He took delivery of one truck load of jhut on Friday.As he went to take delivery of another truck load of goods this (Saturday) morning, a group of Jubo League cadres, led by Absar, demanded Tk 20,000 as toll and they held the goods and took away the key of the truck as a tactic to realize the toll money.

As a GD was lodged with Kotwali thana in this regard, the Jubo League cadres ransacked the buying house, owned by Morshed, in Sagorika Petrol pump area.At that time a clash between two rival groups- Jubo League and BCL - took place, leaving eight injured.Witnesses said though a team of police, led by OC, went to the spot during the clash, the law enforcers stood as silent spectators.One of the wounded, Absar was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Absar sustained stab injuries and there were 15 sewing on his body. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pahartali thana Babul Chandra Banik said that the clash took place over business purpose and none was hurt.
