Dr Mohsin Ali most probably considers himself to be an AL intellectual. You know the type – they wear glasses through which they can't see anything. Especially the US types. They wear their American liberal hat when on campus. And their jeedhi Bangal hat at home. Lets have a look at what he wrote:

 

1. Yunus sacked with green signal from US. So Hasina asked permission from the US to sack Yunus!
2. Yunus has behaved like a child. So in 2010 the US gave Yunus its highest civilian award for behaving like a child!
3. Yunus annoys the US by asking for favours. So what favours? It is Hasina who travels the world asking for huge sums.
4. Hillary Clinton is tired of Yunus. So that's why she sent Blake to make a stand on behalf of Yunus!
5. Yunus has manipulated many world organizations. So that's why many world organisations have embraced Yunus!
6. US Congressmen and Senators conspire to get rid of Yunus. So that's why Congressmen and Senators publicly write in favour of Yunus
7. The sacking did not happen all of a sudden. So that's why everyone else in the world is shocked at this sudden sacking!

The purpose of the whole piece is to end somehow by `saluting the Bangladesh government for standing up to a foreign super power'. It's the intellectual's sole agenda – write any gobbledygook as long as you can shine even the slightest credit on the preferred political party. It is the way of the cunning fox. Except our foxes were raised on taking easy advantage of the illiterate – so they are actually not cunning at all by any broader measure.

 

Hey Daktar Miah! Bangaldesh under every government since 1971 has been incapable of truly standing up to India, Pakistan, Burma, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, US, Europe. Get real. We're grateful for every dollar we can get, every man we can export – and we will accept any shameful compromise for it. If Aung San Suu Kyi was whipped in Burma all we would say is "Dhaka urges caution". Wake up and smell the crap you are standing in.

 

The government has made a stand on Yunus in order to preserve the status quo in Bangladeshi politics. It is a question of survival and revenge. And the whole world knows it. The world does not need the Bangladeshi intellectual at the local campus to pierce the thick smokescreens of our politics. Through the Yunus saga the world has finally come to clearly understand what Bangladeshi politics is all about. Thank you Dr Yunus.

 

``…being a small and poor country'' Bangladesh is quite capable of behaving with a small and poor mentality. Dr Mohsin is just frustrated that he can no longer lobby in the US for an honorary award for his Nethri J  He could have visited Joy's house and had a photo taken. Then, he could have an even bigger status at the shop where he buys his Deshi fish. Or perhaps he is frustrated that the children of his Deshi friends are now talking back – on the side of Yunus J

 

Either way Dr Mohsin – bring it on.
