[ALOCHONA] Re: From the ALOCHONA archive: some relevant topics

Fortunately many good people don't write like that anymore. Its not that they were wrong. They were right to be thoughtful. But, just as for the rest of the country, times have changed. Those days there were many people who theorised and intellectualised about the great issues of the day - without being overtly political. I was never one of them because I never understood why clever people would avoid talking about our harsh realities. Time, politics and politcians were not on their side and the our intellectuals must now confront realities or have it shoved in their face by everyone else.

This is Bangladesh. Everything is politicised and everything is about politics. Those who act as if this is not the case are part of the political establishment. Every single one of them. They are incapable of dissent or demanding reform within their own groups.

The salad says of Alochona were the baby days of Alochona. Apart from die hard AL and die hard BNP - the rest of the country is more fed up than ever before. This discontent seeps and oozes from every square inch of the non partisan electorate. The more we talk about confronting our political culture the better.

Rather than talk of the salad days of Alochona, Farida could talk about the salad days of AL....

I thank God that with every passing year poeple - even many intellectuals - put our harsh political realities at the front and center of their thoughts.

Intellectuals who prefer to ignore our political truths offend both their own intellect and their own political philosophies.

Bangladeshi intellectual: I like to talk about clever things while keeping quiet about murder, corruption and extortion committed by my own preferred party.
