[mukto-mona] RE: [Progressive-Muslim] FW: Call to introduce sexuality education in school curriculum :This Is A Touchy Issue--editorial

No matter what coverings you may use, “Sex Education” is a sensitive topic for those who have a mind and culture of conserving privacy and sexual decency. Some people may like to exploit the opportunity of liberalism through attractive ideas like “sex education”. Sexual development and reproductive health are not-more and not-less important than any aspect of physical and mental health of the youths and young adults. The health and educational care for sexual behavior and sex organs can be emphasized because it is very important in human development, but the program proponents must take this into consideration that the overenthusiastic zeal of the authority and the school components do not mess it up by their ignorance and undue privileges. If someone is genuinely capable and sincerely willing to undertake this task, that person or group must not be Bollywood minded and porn-movie-makers.

If the government is capable of doing something for the young people of the country, they must try it by employing highly educated socially conscientious people who have done this kind of program as proven experts. Otherwise, this attempt will ruin the society just like what our politicians and some movie makers (culture-perverts) have done.  The bottom line is, education in sexual health of the most sensitive segment of the society (the young adult) is not like chewing Moong-Da’l-Bhaza; rather it is as risky as it is essential. If you want to attempt it, do it within the framework of the ‘Physical and Mental Developmental Healthcare’ as a total issue where you can place necessary emphasis on the delicate components. Even this will be a highly ambitious program. I am not to be discouraging. However, please do not make it a FUN-Game like Radha-Krishna Bumblebee-on-Flower-Sucking-Honey as the esteemed “Khude’-Gun-Raj” kids singing to the shamelessness of the parents and audience. {I may be wrong because of being outdated!). The producers are powerful famous people (Big-guns); they have nothing to lose}.

Please forgive this unrefined man.

Call to introduce sexuality education in school curriculum :This Is A Touchy Issue

ountries of the Asia-Pacific region, including Bangladesh, have been urged to introduce comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in school curriculum for ensuring sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of youth. The youth forum of Asia Pacific Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (APCSRHR) made the call at a press conference organized by APCSRHR yesterday marking Youth Day observed on August 12. The press briefing was held at Grha Sabha Pramana of Gadjah Mada University ahead of the three-day APCSRHR begins today.“We commit to complement efforts of the government, civil society, and development partners in promoting comprehensive sexuality education and youth-friendly services through our peer education programmes targeted to our fellow young especially the key populations,” reads the youth declaration.According to the declaration, around 850 million youth, half of the worlds youth population, live in the Asia-Pacific region. The traditionally conservative societies of this region look at claiming sexual and reproductive rights with a negative eye.

Chairman of 6th APCRSHR Prof Muhadjir Darwin criticised states of Asia Pacific region for “no action, talk only” attitude regarding the rights of marginalised people like sex workers and people living with HIV/AIDS.“What they (the states) do is to save face instead of protecting the victims' rights and dignity as human beings or citizens,” he said at the press conference. “Societies change and so does its norms and values. With this change the right to sexual and reproductive health have become more important and sensitive,” said Netherlands Ambassador on SRHR and HIV Marijke Wijnsronks.Over 1000 people including 200 youth delegates from different countries are expected to attend the APCSRHR. The APCSRHR conference, following successful conferences in Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hyderabad and Beijing, is being organised under the sponsorship of and in collaboration with several government agencies, donor agencies, universities and NGOs in the Asia and Pacific regions.

This is a complex subject. The issue can not be seen in the same light by the permissive West and mostly religious Muslim countries and other  and Third world countries. There had been no problem in sexuality and reproduction with sex education in school. Even then if such education is to be given to some extent , this should be within religious norms of Islam and other religions, separately for boys and girls. We do not want to call those who sell sex as sex workers. They should be rehabilitated and prostitution should be banned.
