I have observed and found that in most of the private TV talk shows of Bangladesh [specially in ETV's (Ekusher Rat), ATN's (Shomoyer Vabna), RTV's (Our democracy conducted by. Mr. Murtuza), Bangla Vision's (News & Views, Songbad Protidin etc) Diganta TV, some time in Tritio Matra of "Channel I" also], some guest speaker (many of them, but not all of them) utter and quote wrong, mix of incorrect & correct information -data-figure etc.
Most unfortunately, (most of the) hosts of the TV talk show also do not correct those "wrong or mixture of incorrect & correct information -data-figure" which misguide and give wrong idea to the viewers and spectators!
I wonder how those intellectuals (!) guests and host get chance in the TV talk shows in Bangladesh!!!
Ironically, many, qualified and potential political columnists (who regularly writes in the daily news papers. Writing is difficult than speaking!) are not invited in those TV talk shows, like Dr. Muntasir Mamun, Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed (Ex Foreign Secretary), Dr. Abdul Mannan, Ex VC of CTG University, Mr. Swadesh Roy (Execitive editor of the daily Janakantha), Journalist Shafiqur Rahman (of the daily Ittefaq & Janakantha), Journalist Shajahan Vai (of the daily Sangbad) , Engr. Mozammel Babu (very rarely), Mr. Sayed Borhan Kabir.
Also they do not invite learned, competent and expert (in TV talk shows and debates) AL politicians like Mr. Tofael Ahmed, Mrs. Motia Choudhury, Dr. Dipu Moni, Mr. A M Muhit etc. But they invite less competent like Mr. Dilip Barua, Bar. Yousuf Humayon of AL, newcomer and controversial Mr. Golam Maula Roni MP etc.
On the other hand they invite BNP's most competent capable leaders, Ministers (ex), leaders and sometime proven corrupts also.
Most interestingly, they do not keep appropriate person or ayhority to give authentic and proper reply-answer to the questions-inquiries of the hosts-guest and viewers!
So, then it become very one sided talk show-debate and common people do not get any interest and also do not get any benefit from those talk shows!
So, many people has told me that now a days most of the people in Bangladesh do not watch these TV talk show.
They also told that few of the TV host have become millionaire!!!
Exceptions are there. There are some good hosts also, like Manjarul Hasan Bulbul Vai, Mr. Deep Azad, ATN's Ms. Munni Saha, Mohona TV's Mr. Forhad Hussain and Mr. Pranab Saha. They seem to be well prepared and sincere too.
I used to watch the most of the USA Presidential election debates in different USA TV channels, in BBC, in German TV (DSW) channels. British Parliament debates in BBC, Australian national elections debates etc.
I also watched the BTV debate in Bangladesh of 1996 general election (2nd one), where most of the main political parties participated, except BNP!
Very recently I was watching TV talk shows, interviews and debates - on the incoming national election of the New Zealand (to be held on 26th November, 2011).
Then I was comparing our Bangalee TV talk show hosts and guests with them!
How learned, prepared, sincere and honest they are!
In New Zealand one most interesting thing is that host of the all TV talk show and debates - have to give their updated income statement to public media.
TV hosts are well prepared with facts, figures and documents.
They are very honest and neutral and sincere too!
Most of the TV debates are broadcasted live, so no chance of editing. Randomly selected spectators are also stay in the studio!
Though TV hosts are mercy less and very tough. But if any one do too much "BARABARI" or make irrational behaviour (it happened only once in last 12 years, which I have seen) - then he/she is also questionable and have to get proper treatment and punishment!
BTB, I have already given my votes (2 votes as per MMP system) on 14.11.2011, as I will leave NZ before the election day.
I think , we have to improve much in this TV field (talk shows and TV debates, interviews)!
Otherwise it will be mere waste of time (for all, host-guests-viewers) and waste of money (of the poor nation)!
