[ALOCHONA] Re: Ustad Sultan Khan, Indian Classical Musician, Dies at 71

He was indeed a genius. I also regret never seeing him live.

I must take this opportunity:

Nobody gives a damn about the disgraceful state of classical music in Bangladesh. It is a true reflection of our national condition. We opine about Pakistani singers in the greatest of Indian competitions but it never occurs to us that it never occurs to the Indians or Pakistanis to invite us!

But why should they?

Runa Laila was big in South Asia 25 years ago and, being Bongus, that's more than enough for us.

It's why an exhibition concert of Hariprasad Chaurasia would sell out in Dhaka but an exhibition concert of the sublime Bangladeshi flute will probably sell 100 tickets.
