I think what Sk. Mujibur Rahman had done were all correct and beyond criticism - Surrendering to Pakistan force, Having others to declare Independence (Shah Hannan, later on High Court), Establishing BAKSHAL, Creating Rokkhi Bahini.... Freeing up 195 Pakistani War Criminals, Vanishing or let AL people Vanishing all foreign aids to Bangladesh and Bringing "akal" of 1974 (which I remember a bit), and so on.

Only problem is that half of nation never liked his good deeds, and in 1975, after his death, all his lovers left him on the stairs and formed a cabinet under Khondoker Mustaq Ahmed.

Good night.

It would be a blasphemous act from my part to suggest what Mujib should have done under the critical circumstances of the days of 71. Hiding or escaping to India would have been easy for him but he chose to stay on his ground and face the enemy. I call that a true courage! He could have been killed by a Pakistani crossfire and our destiny would not have been changed at all. Yes, that man was ready to die! Freedom for Bengalees was written on the wall and no amount of brutalities would have stopped the desire for freedom. The whole thing was planned ahead like a chess gambit. The man did not commit any crime by winning the election or by demanding autonomy for the East wing. A very shrewd strategy as a prelude for the independence. Why should he hide or escape? He was a leader and not a petty politician.

Now, the people, who are criticizing Mujib for staying in Dhaka- would have sung a different tune had he crossed the border to India. He would have been called an instant Indian "dalal" by the Pakistanis and our own dear super desho-premiks. Many of these theory based critics are basically armchair pundits, who are born and brought up with primitive human instinct of fleeing from any danger zone even at the sound of a loud fart, let alone roaring canons. I must say I feel like throwing up with such topic even discussed and debated. Well, we all know why that man needs to be criticized while the true criminals of 71 need to be rehabilitated for their stance against the independence. As the wise Chinese proverb goes, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"
With respect and regards,

Can anyone please explain in plain words: Did Mujib do anything wrong that he needed to hide in his own country or even cross the border? If he had done so, what would happen to the legality or justification of our proclaimed independence?
According to many wise opinions, that was the better, or probably the best choice Mujib had made. Otherwise, his absconding might have crushed our dream for freedom at a very sooner pace, or our fight might have been a very long and violent one, with no foreign support and the list of dead might have grown a bit longer.

AL claims Mujibur Raman's; 7th March, 1971, address was the declaration of our independence. According to modern history, when a country declares independence, they follow the following procedures:
Did AL or Mujibur Rahman ask Pakistani soldiers and personal to leave Bangladeshi territory?
Did AL or Mujibur Rahman send a diplomat around the world for recognition of independent Bangladesh ?
AL or Mujibur Rahman did not follow the above procedure. On March 13, 1971, AL and Mujibur Rahman started dialog with Pakistani generals to diffuse the tension and bring about a peaceful solution under the umbrella of united Pakistan . If we read all of the published newspapers in the turbulence month of March 13, 1971 to March 23, 1971, we saw that AL and Mujibur Rahman gave hope to the nation that they are discussing and hoping that a peaceful solution will be achieved.
The discussion broke out on 23rd of March, 1971 with out any peaceful solution. Bucher Bhutto and Yahha Khan left Bangladesh after giving the green signal to Pakistani soldiers and officers for a full scale assault on the peaceful people of Bangladesh .
The people of Bangladesh were waiting with enormous anxiety and hope to hear from AL and Mujibur Rahman a clear direction to save their love ones and their country. Forty eight crucial hours of our history passed a way with out any clear direction to safe guard the people and the country.
On the eve of 26th of March 1971, Pakistani soldiers started operation search light against the unarmed, peaceful people of Bangladesh . They killed thousand of people with out any resistance. Operation search light was one of the most intelligence failures of AL and Mujibur Rahman. The discussion between butcher Bhutto, Yahya Khan and Mujibur Rahman was a technique of the Pakistani side to buy time to send Pakistani troops and logistics to assault the peaceful people of Bangladesh .
AL and Mujibur Rahman did not have foresight or vision to manage this crucial time of our history. On the eve of 26th of March, 1971 Mujbur Rahman was arrested from his house.
This is one of the unique cases where the leader of the independent movement was arrested on the eve of the war.
In 1941, the Viet Minh — a communist and nationalist liberation movement — emerged under Ho Chi Minh to seek independence for Vietnam from France as well as to oppose the Japanese occupation. Ho Chi Ming fought against the French and Japanese for four years, he was not arrested on the eve of their independence war.
The Second Sino-Japanese war (1937–1945) the Communist Party of China (CPC) led by Mao Zedong did not surrender at the eve of the Japanese aggression. He led the war and forced the Japanese to withdraw their occupation from China .
The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), led by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin who were able to bring total victory against British Empire and established a free and democratic country called the United States of America . None of them were arrested or surrendered, at the beginning of their struggle for independence.
So, if we look at all of the revolutionary and independence wars around the world, we will not see any revolutionary leader arrested on the eve of the revolutionary war. The Mujbur Rahman address on 7th March, 1971 was nothing but political rhetoric. Political rhetoric is not enough to consolidate independence or liberty.
