As I have given my opinion before, Zia's entire life was driven by careerism. No firm principle had place in it. He went to unload arms from Pakistani ship. He got resistance. He came back. AL organizers were looking for an officer as a rebel. Finding this alternative now more lucrative, he took their side. Initially he wanted to call for a fight without mentioning Mujib. He was not allowed to do so. Then he said,"On behalf of Sheikh Mujibur ..,,,...."
I don't agree he was a Pakistani agent. He was a freedom fighter. Most importantly he was a great careerist. He would do any thing for power and position. He was desperate to be in BKSAL. He did not have any firm political conviction. We know how he eliminated all his rivals or potential/perceived enemies. He would have been happy to lead AL after Mujib's death. Having failed to do so, he turned to the extreme rightists, reactionaries, opportunists, and worst, to the anti-liberation forces. Just to be in power, he destroyed the entire political system. Now the country is suffering. He did not have any ideology or great political wisdom. No foresight and no vision. Leaders like him cannot show any direction to the nation. But with his narrow world views, he was an extreme hard worker. We have seen him walking across the country. This is rare. I have not heard anything about his personal greed---greed for food, drink, women, or any other luxuries. I wish every leader have these aspects in their character. But without a great vision and political and ideological belief, this has no value to the nation. This can only confuse common people. That is exactly what happened in his case. His legacy is too well founded to be uprooted. He wash merely a transmitter of Mujib's message. But can you convince all people with this fact? He was nothing compared to Mujib. But look at the charisma he was able to build about himself in the minds of the people. I do not believe in worshipping a person. But it matters to the nation whom it glorifies. Because by doing this the nation creates own destiny. It is important to decide now whose path the nation should follow---Mujib's or Zia's? That I'd what AL and BNP must focus on. Also that is what you should talk about. That is where we should have our real fight.

Mr. Subimal,At least you recognized that Zia declared our liberation. Unfortunately diehard Awami /Baksalis even don't want to recognize that. They just want to say that he was a simple reader/radio announcer on behalf of Sheikh Mujib who prefererred surendering to Pak Junta instead of leadingour war of liberation.Even one senior Awami Leaguer said recently that Zia was an agent of Pakistan. Can BAList rewrite the history?Zia's declaration energized our liberation war .Did Sheikh Mujib called Zia over telephone or gave Zia written order to declare liberation on his behalf ?
If Zia used Mujib's name do declare our liberation he did it to honor/respect Sheikh Mujib the majority leader of the Natioinal Assembly.Diehard Baksalis never recognize the contribution of warriors who abandoned Awami Policies like Bongobir Kader Siddiki, Bongobir General Osmani, Bir Freedom FighterMajr Jalil, Major Ziauddin and many more. If you aren't a supporter of Awami/Bksal , you will be treated as agent of Pakistan this is Awami mentality.

Subject: [mukto-mona] Zia's Claim that he declared independence of Bangladesh
Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2012 15:00:12 -0700 (PDT)Yes, Mr. Anwar. I myself have heard with my own ears what Zia said on 27th (?) over radio. He said, "On behalf of Shaikh Mujibur Rahman, I declare----." Captain Halim Chowdhury (then a Muzaffar NAP leader) mentioned that on 28th (?) in his speech to a big group of young people. I think it has been well documented. From: Mohiuddin Anwar <mohiuddin@netzero.net>

Subject: Re: [Progressive-Muslim] Fw: Zia's Claim that he declared independence of BangladeshCan anyone prove that Zia said that, he declared independence on behalf of Sheikh Mujibor Rahman ?Is there any such recording available ? Even if he declared the Independence, who's behalf isn't relevent , rather on behalf ofthe 75 million Bangalees.
Millions heard Zia's declaration of independnce transmitted from Kalurghat Betar Kendro. That declaration ofindependence energized freedom loving Bangalis fight for liberationwar, We know that, while Zia declared Independence,Sheikh Mujib already taken away to Pakistan by the military junta. Sheikh Mujhib could not say anything after his arreston 25th March 1971.History should be written the truth and the truth only, nobody has any right to rewrite the history, even thesupreme court or any sitting government.---------- Original Message ----------

Subject: Zia's Claim that he declared independence of BangladeshMr. Shahadat SuhrawardyObviously, this video of yours is a carefully doctored presentation....that 's why it has only a half a line from Zia's original announcementfrom Kalurghat Radio Station.I have not seen anyone who says, in your word"Lot of people say that he never claimed that he declared independence ofBangladesh" ... Please give a reference (link) to such distortion on whichyour oblique comment is based.Evidently, there are some confusion about, on whose behalf Zia made thethe announcement..Your video is a BNP propaganda material produced byProbashibarta.com and part of which is Zia's self-promotion.It also contain some false statement about Zia's birth placeand childhood in Bogra. The reality is Zia' parents had no connection with Bogra, beforehis uncles family moved there after Partion of India (through propertyexchange) in early nineteen fifties.Zia's family (father & ancestors) hails from Birbhum in today'sWest Bengal. Many of Zia's immediate relatives still live there.Listen to the real one in which Zia made the announcement onbehalf of Sheikh Mujib:Syed AslamPS: Zia's announcement didn't call the people to join the liberationwar. As a matter of fact people had already in the battle field fightingagainst the occupation army on the call given by Sheikh Mujib:On Wed, Apr 4, 2012 at 5:13 PM, Shahadat Hussaini <shahadathussaini@hotmail.com> wrote:
