Re: [mukto-mona] Re: [ALOCHONA] Badruddin Umar on court ruling on Humayun's novel

Humayun Ahmed has defied a document (maybe he was not aware of this document) and used his imagination to describe in his novel "Deyal" how Russell was brutally killed. His imagination has run in a direction that looks like has indulged in creating a certain kind of literary "rasa" (if not "adirasa") amidst all the brutalities, bloodshed, and screaming. It requires certain kind of mindset, attitudes, and mentality to create a scenario in which two young ladies and a young boy are trembling in fear on a bed being intermingled.

Dr. Anwar Hossain, the VC of JU and Humayun Ahmed's family friend, has objected to the portrayal of Col. Farouk as a compassionate man of justice.
In "Deyal" Farouk shoots with his own hand a Pakistani soldier who rapes a Bengali girl. Farouk is glorified in Humayun.
Those who have read Sunil's "Prothom Alo"" and "Sei Somoy" know how Sunil has used wild imagination to portray historical figures. Humayun is a good friend of Sunil. I must say that Humayun has used imagination but has not shown enough sense of responsibility. The subject matters of Sumil and Humayun are quite different.
Finally a writer must be allowed freedom. The state must refrain from intervening with what a writer writes.

A historical fact should be written right and objectively before that fiction becomes a reference point for future history. Humayaun was not there at the killing spot and he did not witness that Mujib was begging for his life. That part of the story is pure fabrication and it should be omitted or corrected. The writer should have known better when he deals with historical topics.
