Without embracing the 'opinion' or the 'political party allegiance' aspect of the write-up, I have to accept the observations, and the questions raised by the unfolding events right before the eyes.
Beating up journalists is a dumb act for the police to indulge in under any circumstance in any country. Police harassment of Occupy Wall Street protesters in New York City last year is facing court cases. In Bangladesh the reported police abuses in recent events were mostly uncalled for, and quite unprovoked. Why would the police act like that to draw unfavorable attention to themselves? Really quite bizarre! It invites conspiracy theories.
An intelligent newspaper columnist draws our attention to those points and facts that are slightly off the main stage, or just beneath the surface. We are provided with an insight with which we re-examine the news events. We see the unfolding events in new light and with better understanding.
It does not take wordy explanations to point out that this kind of Police action is unusual even in Bangladesh where the law enforcement agents are not the best, or the most trusted in the world. Blanket condemnation of the Police is too easy, and in this case, tantamount to fulfilling the the aim of the conspirators. The aim was to extract statements like "Bangladesh has turned into a police state" by the media and the civil society. Blame the Govt. Blame the political party that is in charge of the Govt. Period. Kella fateh!

These are stories made for public to defame Awami League! Like the news of Felani at the Boarder of Bogra caused damage to Municipal Election and Awami League was totally trapped! This requires intelligent inquiry to find out the whole TRUTH and persons behind the game plan!
