Re: [mukto-mona] EID-Prayer for Muslim-Ummah

In large prayer sessions, most Muslim do both. They pray for fellow Muslims all over the world, pray for peace world wide and (In Bangladesh) pray for peaceful BD as well. It is a natural expression. For example, I saw a news in Anandabazar paper (From Kolkata) about a Hindu person killed in Pakistan in some sort of accident. Pakistan witnesses a lot of killing of all kind of people for various reasons. It made head line in Ananda Bazar since Hindus are majority among readers and have natural sympathy for fellow Hindus outside India.

Similarly Muslims have some curiosity and sympathy for people being murdered in Palestine, Kashmir, Pakistan and elsewhere. So we offer prayers for safety for the whole Ümma. If Muslims never wished peace (We say Salaam to wish peace unto everyone) to non-Muslims, I would have agreed with you but that is not the case.

Having said that, it was a very good question to ask.

Hope you are not effected by Sandy.

Wishing well to all members who may or may not got effected by "Sandy".

Shalom!

Subject: [mukto-mona] EID-Prayer for Muslim-Ummah

I was watching Bangla-TV yesterday, and they were showing EID-jamat all over Bangladesh. The commentators were showing the pictures of EID-jamats, all over Bangladesh. One of the commentators ended his coverage with a statement like  – EID-jamat ended with a prayer to Allah for the well-being of the entire Muslim-Ummah around the world.
This last statement stuck in my mind. A national prayer is usually directed to all humankind, not just a particular group of people. Obviously, they have the right to pray for anybody they like. But, it appeared to me kind of odd and narrow. I feel good when someone sends EID-greetings to me. It would be nice if they could include others in their prayers also on this holy occasion.
