In Bangladesh some very important posts are filled with non-Muslim population also. For example, one of the leading intellectuals Dr. Debopriyo Bhattacharja does not need any favor from Muslims to justify his esteemed position here. The new BRTA (Telecom authority) chief is a Bangladeshi Hindu and MD of Sonali Bank is also a non-Muslim. To me these are not "News" as long people are qualified for the positions. There are non-Muslim professionals I am impressed with and their dedication commands respect.
As long people are treated fairly for their talents that is all matters.
India is a bog country with a huge Muslim population. If there are qualified Muslims to fill some government jobs, it should go to them. What is the big deal!
However if you really look at the population and what percentage of Muslims getting federal jobs, you will see some issues to discuss. The long communist rule in west Bengal ensured less communal violence in the state (Compare to Gujrat, Mumbai etc) but those four decades were known for depriving Muslim young men and women from getting federal jobs. Now the new administration is trying to look into this issue (26% population with 2% federal jobs!!).
There are many aspects of India that I admire. At the same time, let us not forget the many many areas where India consistently failed it's minority population. Either way, the following post is news to only very communal minded people. Not to me....

ভারতের সুপ্রিম কোর্টের ৩৯তম প্রধান বিচারপতি হিসেবে গতকাল শনিবার শপথ নিয়েছেন বাঙালি মুসলমান আলতামাস কবীর। ভারতের সর্বোচ্চ আদালতের প্রধান হিসেবে ষষ্ঠ বাঙালি প্রধান বিচারপতিকে শপথবাক্য পাঠ করান প্রথম বাঙালি রাষ্ট্রপতি প্রণব মুখার্জি। রাষ্ট্রপতি ভবনের অশোকা হলে শপথগ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী মনমোহন সিং এবং কংগ্রেস সভানেত্রী সোনিয়া গান্ধী, বিজেপি নেতা এলকে আদভানি প্রমুখ। ৬৪ বছর বয়সী আলতামাস কবীর আগামী বছরের জুলাই পর্যন্ত ভারতের প্রধান বিচারপতি হিসেবে কাজ করবেন। তিনি বিচারপতি এসএইচ কাপাডিয়ার স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন। এর আগে তিনি কলকাতা ও ঝাড়খণ্ড হাইকোর্টের প্রধান বিচারপতির দায়িত্ব সামলেছেন। ২০০৫ সালে ভারতীয় সুপ্রিম কোর্টের বিচারপতি নিযুক্ত হন তিনি। ১৯৪৮ সালের ১৯ জুলাই কলকাতায় জন্মগ্রহণ করেন আলতামাস কবীর। কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে স্নাতকোত্তর এবং এলএলবি পাস করেন। তিনি আদালতে প্রথম প্রবেশ করেন ১৯৭৩ সালের ১ আগস্ট। ১৯৯০ সালের ৬ আগস্ট কলকাতা হাইকোর্টের বিচারপতি নিযুক্ত হন। ২০০৫ সালের ১১ জানুয়ারি নিযুক্ত হন কলকাতা হাইকোর্টের প্রধান বিচারপতি। একই বছরের ১ মার্চ তিনি ঝাড়খণ্ড হাইকোর্টের প্রধান বিচারপতি হন। তার সৌজন্যেই কলকাতা হাইকোর্ট নগর দায়রা আদালতে কম্পিউটারের প্রবেশ ঘটেছিল। ভারতের শীর্ষ আদালতের প্রধান বিচারপতি হিসেবে আলতামাস কবীরের মেয়াদ শেষ হবে ২০১৩ সালের ১৮ জুলাই।
বিচারপতি হিসেবে মানবাধিকার ও নির্বাচনবিধি সংক্রান্ত বেশ কিছু মামলায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ রায় দিয়েছেন আলতামাস কবীর। ২০১০ সালের জানুয়ারিতে তিনি ন্যাশনাল লিগ্যাল সার্ভিসেস অথরিটির এক্সিকিউটিভ চেয়ারম্যানের দায়িত্ব পান। টাইমস অব ইন্ডিয়া, জিনিউজ অনলাইন।
