Looks like Mr. Ibrahim has recently developed an irresistible political ambition. Presently he is getting nothing out of his Kalyan Party. Glorifying Zia may help him in getting a high position in the government if BNP manages to come to power next time. He might have got a green signal from Khaleda Zia's recent India visit. It is clear that in his article he has intentionally suppressed some well known truths about Zia. Zia's participation in the liberation war not spontaneous, rather he was forced to participate. Although '75 August coup was conducted by a handful of ousted army officers, there are theories (e.g. Gaffar Chowdhury) that Zia had consent to the coup. Zia was happy with BKSAL. He was highly ambitious and he never wanted to be isolated. He was very cunning though. He knew when to keep silent and when to strike. He was good at correctly identifying the opportune moments. The three-month rule by Mustak after '75 August coup was nothing but a rule by a small group of active or retired army officers. It was humiliating to all army officers possibly including Zia. Khaled Mosharraf's coup was an attempt to restore the respect and discipline in the army and also to restore the spirit of the liberation movement. Probably Khaled Mosharraf had support from Zia also. We may remember that Mustak and the small group of army officers on which he was dependent were working to frustrate what the country achieved through independence. One symbolic change they made was changing the name of Bangladesh Betar to Radio Bangladesh. Jay Bangla slogan was also dumped. In the army there was another group led by Col. Taher who was also a freedom fighter. But he was radical and was against Indian hegemony. The over zealous sepoys loyal to him started killing officers as they could not be trusted at all in a revolution. It was a total anarchy. There is no proof that Col. Taher gave such suicidal directive to his followers. Zia was watching cautiously and looking for an opportune moment. Now we know that he somehow managed to get support of Taher. Khaled Mosharraf and his followers were killed. Zia captured the power. He killed his savior Taher. He killed many more. There were few coups when he got more chances to kill any officer that he thought could be actually or potentially against him. So many officers of the Air Force were killed. The story I have told above is not new. It has been told many times.
