[mukto-mona] Re: URGENT: Save the Trade for Bangladesh or Save Awamii League?

Dear Br. Badiuzzaman:

http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=255360

Your respond brought my attention with interests. If I'm not wrong, we met in late 1990s when I went to Cambridge, Massachusetts to complete specialized courses at Harvard University to peruse my Masters of International Management degree program with the University of Maryland.

I know you're a man of integrity and well respected person in your community. Your sincere statement "A baby is drowning.  Let us try to save the baby first" is appealing and make some senses for helps for a country we all are originally belonged. However, I don't see parents' (PM and Ministers) anxieties for their drowning baby nor even  anxiousness of the relatives (BAL Leaders) at all.

Further more, it disturbs me when I see Prime Minister and Ministers of Bangladesh (parents) are accusing internationally acclaimed personality and other (Dr. Yunus and the US administration) who can be big help to rescue the drowning baby. Besides this, BD government is protecting criminal Abul Hossain who is one of the causes of baby's drowning.

Any service is always noble work if that helps the people who needs the most. That's kind of philosophy and lesson I learned as a citizen and politician of the United States of America. Accordingly, I try to help people the best possible way I can. But helping Bangladesh government never serves the people we expect, especially at the time of Bangladesh Awami League government.

Do you know who will be benefited most from the help of Bangladeshi expatriates or foreign government in this situation?

I can guarantee you that ordinary citizens or workers of the garment industries will never be benefited at all. Only Bangladesh Awami Leaguers and the owners of garment industries will be benefited from such helps.

Most importantly, help from Bangladeshi expatriates or foreign governments will not save Bangladesh, but will save Bangladesh Awami Leaguers and the owners of garment industries. Sheikh Mujib's era (1971-1975) is a good example to this views.

Therefore I ask you to request Bangladesh government to act the following to resolve the crisis.

Carry out the issues and concerns addressed by Hon. Hillary Clinton last year;

Reinstate Dr. Mohammed Yunus with dignity and apologize to him for misbehavior;

Bring back Grameen Bank to its' original status;

Arrest the killer of Aminul Islam and prosecute him immediately;

Establish labor union for the garment industry workers and fulfill the demands of the workers.

Several Bangladeshi newspapers warned about this situation before with mentioning the above mentioned issues. It is late but not too late to try to act on these issues immediately. Bangladesh government's action may (or may not) help to resolve the crisis. However, it is always good to try.

Dear friends:

A baby is drowning.  Let us try
to save the baby first. Then we
can debate: who/why/what ?

Best regards,

Badiuzzaman Nasim

Mr. Guho,

Do you know why USA is doing this to our motherland Bangladesh. Because we failed miserably on our promise. We had to correct the situation
of our garment industries safety system for the workers as well as improving good relation with USA. You smentioned that best friend thought  Dr. Yunus is more important than the interest of the nation.
Similarly I am saying Bangladesh's interest is more important than one Abuillya whom your Netri is protecting until now.
If Abuillya was sacked at the begininbg of the investigation , we might have recived the WB loan for Padma Bridge project by now. Now it's too late to convince the WB for the loan. All hopes for
the loan is almost dead now. Inefficiency of Hasina regime causing us MFN status from USA for our garment  export as well as MFN(most favored nation) status. We have to realize the realituy.
Diplomatically Bangladesh failed to convince USA and WB unfortunately .

Mr. Best Friend:
Look like you are a 'best friend' of others than Bangladesh! I had requested to support Bangladesh, not AL or the government! Bangladesh is Bigger than Dr. Yunus and you don't need to compare Dr. Y with Dr. Sen!
Mr. Best Friend, you have every right to talk against the government, but as you told, Bangladesh should not suffer for Dr. Yunus;160 million people should not suffer for 1 man!
Please come to sense. We love USA/ EU and we also love Bangladesh, where we born? Thanks.

To Whom It May Concern:

Why you're crying now? Didn't you support all activities and propaganda of Bangladesh government by ignoring the concerns of the United States government before? Didn't your Bangladesh government humiliated Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohammed Yunus and cordially welcomed Prof. Amartya Sen of a foreign country at the same time? Didn't you supportBangladeshgovernment for taking over the Grameen Bank and threw out Dr. Yunus from that internationally acclaimed institution?

Why you are begging for help now?

Tell your brutal killer Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to listen and comply with what US Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton has asked to do last year. Bangladesh will suffer a lot unless the fascist Bangladesh Government acts immediately on the legitimate demands of the US and European governments.

If you can not do the above, then continue support your Bangladesh government in torturing and killing innocent people, involve in bribery activities and prosecuting war criminals to oppress political opponents by ignoring the voices of the world media and world leaders.

Thanks,

Bestfriend

It sounds like we have messed up again by not speaking the right language with the American bureaucratic machinery? Contacting local congressmen would be the best way to move forward.

Badiuzzaman Nasim.

DearNasim bhai,
Hope all is well.
I am requesting your kind attention, support, and prompt action on a matter of national interestfor Bangladesh.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is conducting a review of petitions submitted bya US Labor Organization called AFL-CIO to remove Bangladesh'squota of duty-free entry of certain products in the US market, which is a privilege known as the General System of Preferences (GSP).
USTR is currently seeking publiccomments on this matter, which provides us with a precious opportunitytoexpress ourconcerns against the threat of removing GSP privileges for Bangladesh, and perhaps influence the decision in Bangladesh's favor. As you can probably imagine, such a drastictrade policy measure by theUnited Stateswouldcausea severe blowto the growing export potential of Bangladeshi products in the US market, andpose a serious branding problem for Bangladesh in the US and in other parts of the world - possibly leading to someirreversible damagesin the country's garments sector.
We have until Jan 31, 2013, to submit opinions to USTR. The online submission link is as follows:
I urge you tosubmit comments,andalsoask yourfriends/colleagues/community organizations in your area tosubmit comments toUSTR in favor of retaining the GSP privileges for Bangladesh.I have attached a document with this email to providemore informationabout this issue.Please feel free tocopy text fromthis document toprepare yourcomments for online submission. The document was prepared based on a recently published newspaper article written by the Bangladesh Embassadorto the US (see link below):
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Thanking in advance for your time and support,
Sincerely -
Sudipta Sarkar
Houston, TX.
