Thousands of people from across the social divide rallied at Ganajagaran Mancha on the premises of Chittagong Press Club at Jamal Khan Road on Thursday.

They demanded execution of all convicted war criminals and a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and protested against Tuesday's explosion of homemade bombs near the.

The rally started through rendering of the national anthem at 5pm, but activists of different political, social and cultural organisations began gathering at from 3pm.

Sharif Chauhan, Coordinator of the Chittagong Ganajagaran Mancha, a replica of the Shahbagh's Ganajagaran Mancha, moderated the rally which was attended by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, poet and journalist Abul Momen and cultural activist Ahkam Ullah.

On Tuesday, the protesters of Ganajagaran Mancha postponed their Wednesday's rally in the port city amid threats from Hefazat-e-Islam and embargo on public gathering.

Ganajagoran Mancha later decided to stage the rally on Thursday protesting crude bomb blasts.

The movement at Shahbagh intersection, now christened 'Prajanma Chattar', began on Feb 5, hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah to life imprisonment for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

People from across the broad social spectrum have expressed their unity with the new generation protesters who vowed to hoist the national flag in educational institutions and homes across the country to free the nation from the 'stigma' attached to war crimes.

The protest started by the youngsters and bloggers has already turned into a mass uprising, spreading eventually among the expatriate Bangladeshis.

চট্টগ্রামে জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবের সামনে গণজাগরণ মঞ্চের প্রতিবাদী সমাবেশ হয়েছে। সমাবেশে কয়েক হাজার মানুষ প্রতিবাদী স্লোগান দেন। তাদের কণ্ঠে ছিল প্রতিবাদী গান। 
আজ বৃহস্পতিবার বেলা তিনটার দিকে সমাবেশ শুরু হয়। জাতীয় সংগীতের মধ্য দিয়ে শুরু হয় সমাবেশ। গত মঙ্গলবার রাতে চট্টগ্রাম প্রেসক্লাবের সামনে পর পর তিনটি বোমার বিস্ফোরণ ঘটে। এতে ধোঁয়ায় আচ্ছন্ন হয়ে পড়ে প্রেসক্লাবের বিভিন্ন কক্ষ। এ সময় জাগরণ মঞ্চের সংগঠকেরা সংবাদ সম্মেলন করার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছিলেন। এর প্রতিবাদে আজ সেখানে সমাবেশ করছে গণজাগরণ মঞ্চ। 
সমাবেশে বক্তব্য দিয়েছেন সম্মিলিত সাংস্কৃতিক জোটের সভাপতি নাসির উদ্দীন ইউসুফ। তিনি ও অন্য বক্তারা বোমা হামলার জন্য জামায়াত-শিবিরকে দায়ী করেন। এর পাশাপাশি তাঁরা বলেছেন, যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তি ও জামায়াতের রাজনীতি নিষিদ্ধ করা আমাদের দাবি। সেই সঙ্গে গণজাগরণ মঞ্চ কোনো ধর্ম বা ইসলামের বিরুদ্ধে নয় বলেও জানান তাঁরা। 
গতকাল বুধবার চট্টগ্রামে গণজাগরণ মঞ্চের মহাসমাবেশ অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল। ওই দিন হেফাজতে ইসলাম হরতাল ডাকে। গণজাগরণ মঞ্চ ও হেফাজতে ইসলাম পাল্টাপাল্টি সমাবেশ ডাকায় চট্টগ্রামে সব ধরনের সভা-সমাবেশের ওপর নিষেধাজ্ঞা জারি করে প্রশাসন। এর মধ্যে রাত সাড়ে আটটার দিকে প্রেসক্লাব চত্বরে পর পর তিনটি বোমা বিস্ফোরণের ঘটনা ঘটে।
