I wish every religionist would be like you, but - it is not. Bangladesh economy is going down; social framework in Bangladesh is cracking. And all these are going on for the political power struggle. I do not think this destructive politics started because of election season, BNP started 'Sarkar-Poton (Dethrone-Government)' movement right after their defeat in the last election. They are still shouting to dethrone the government even though election is knocking at the door. Why would they want to dethrone an elected government, unless the government has committed anti-state activities? This is an unlawful demand by a political party, which only invites violence, not healthy political environment. Those leaders need to be held accountable for misusing such a sacred political instrument. Anyone wants to use this instrument need to justify it before using it. BNP has misused it so much that people don't pay attention to this call anymore. BNP wants to use anything and everything, including religion, to dethrone government. BNP leaders announced solidarity with Hijrat Islam yesterday, and demanded punishment for 'Nastik' Bloggers. What a naked political pandering! You said – 'blogsite' is not a private space, since anyone can access it. I agree. But, the issue is not if it is a public domain or not, it is the individual rights issue. If someone commits SIN by being a Nastik, others have only right to render counseling against such action only; they have no right to ask for punishment, unless it is declared unlawful in the country. As far as I know, it is not unlawful to become Nastik in Bangladesh. So, don't make it a lame excuse to score political points. Many speakers in the Hefajati-rally asked for the caretaker government in their speech. What that tells you. This whole 'Nastik' issue is a political mockery of religion. All those 'Hujurs' who marched to Dhaka yesterday should save their energies for a patriotic march when need arises. This is a non-issue, and does not deserve long-march. Awami League should understand all these under current before they act on anything. I can bet you - those bloggers and their supporters are all indirectly helping Awami League government policies, and they will be a big plus for Awami League in the coming election. So, my advice to Awami-leaderships is - let them free, before you alienate your big support base. You have seen polarization of BNP towards center-right parties. Awami League is trying to court both sides. In doing so, they are only alienating their main support base, which is center left young generation. This generation could get turned off from politics, and that will mean victory for BNP/Jamat in the next election. Jiten Roy
