Re: [mukto-mona] Re: Non-Muslims in Bangladesh – What Choices Do They Have?

In this disturbing times, it is hard to keep our emotions in check.

However in order find a long term solution, we have to do that. It is NOT only a non-Muslim issue, since thousands of Muslims are ALSO victims of our "Conventional politics".

As I mentioned earlier, it is NOT a religious crime but mainly motivated by POLITICS.

So one way is to bargain with leaders about "Delivery" of their promises for non-Muslim population. For example, I can tell you most American Muslims historically vote for democratic party. Since the 70's they have been loyal to their party. Around 2000 they realized that, democratic party took their voted as a "Sure thing" . One of their demands were to support a more balanced policy in Palestine-Israeli crisis.

During the vote, most American Muslims changed their ususal pattern  of voting and voted overwhelmingly for republicans. In fact, they became a key factor in getting Bush Jr into white house. This change did not change fate of Muslims in any meaningful ways (As history tells us) however it made politicians aware of the power of Muslim votes. Despite many idiotic moves made by Bush Jr, he was the first US president who made a "Policy change" in middle east and "Officially" declared US support for "Two state solution". Still this is the "Official" US position about Palestine.

I am NOT asking any of your the change your voting patterns (It is strictly your business) but at least let leaders of all parties know the power of your votes and demand more protection for places of worship.

You cannot forgo academic discussions. However with such discussions a positive action plan is needed to make a meaningful impact in the future. As long we stay democratic (Power stays with people) I am hopeful that with time we can improve from current unsavory politics.

Also try not to make "Islam" your enemy. I have spend hundreds of hours to explain to members that, Islam does NOT support any violence against innocent population. It is written in the holy Qur'an and every maulana in planert earth can be taken to task for violating the Qur'an (It is like commands of veda to us). So target criminals and involve fair minded people (We are still majority in this country).

Most importantly we have to get past short term fixes and go for long term plans. It would tactically best if you include innocent Muslim victims as well. So people will be motivated to get involved.

My two cents.

Shalom!

This is to comment on Mr. Chakrabarty's comments below.

Looking at what are going on in Bangladesh right now and what have been going on in that land since 1947, there is hardly any point in doing an academic discussion on the motives. All major political forces in Bangladesh are criminals; the Muslim criminals have been operating with impunity under all governments, including the current one. No party has proven the willingness of delivering justice to the criminals.

What nonsense of 'analytical report' do you think would stop the barbaric atrocities on those innocent and nonviolent people, who happened to be born in religious groups other than Muslim?

In newspaper reports we see only facts.  We also need to know the motives. We also need to know who the provocateurs are and who the soldiers are. Is the motive land grabbing or fighting idolatry? I wish we could have a good analytical report on the issue.
