Dr Roy,
You answered your own question very succinctly. Everybody should stand together and fight the barbarism, brutality and injustice that had befallen on Hindus in Bangladesh and previously in Pakistan. By everybody I mean Hindus, Muslims and Christians, Buddhists and so forth all together. It is not a Hindu issue alone; although as the largest minority Hindus are facing the brunt of such brutalities.
The solution is not that the Hindus should arm themselves with guns and then they will all be protected - far from it. That will aggravate the situation even further. They will be attacked by criminals (religious or semi-religious elements or goons) with guns. In my view, the solution lies in the communal approach - Hindus, Muslims and others jointly building up a communal fellow-feeling and if possible, a communal defence force. Muslims will have to embrace Hindus as their compatriots and Hindus will have to give up their separate distinctive identity. This does not mean that Muslims will have to accept Hindu culture and Hindus will have to accept Muslim culture - far from it. It is the mental attitude; religion should not be allowed to dictate our lives. Hindus should go to Muslim houses and vice versa. There should NOT be some sort of apartheid existence. Hindus and Muslim together is the Bangladesh and the communities should have co-existence without fear or favour or mutual distrust.
In short, I would say that communal, cooperative approach between Hindus and Muslims is much much better than adversarial approach and this should start without delay. To do this, religions should be voluntarily or involuntarily relegated to background. In other words, secularism should be adopted as a national anchor. A country having diverse cultures in harmony with each other can progress much further than any single culture can achieve. This is what I believe and I hope I am right.

What I said is about self-defense, which is a God given fundamental human right for everybody. Why would do you think that is so bad for Hindus? What would you do – if someone enters into your home and start beating everybody, or try to burn your home or try to violate women in your home? Would you not try to defend your family members? Please think about it.
Resistance movement is against criminals and criminality. It was not against any political party, be that Jamat or BNP or Awami League. Why would that make Hindus more vulnerable?
Recently, some local Jamat leaders even said that they will stand alongside Hindus to resist future attacks on them. They said they are being blamed for the crimes committed by others. And, my belief is – if Hindus appeal to them for protection, they will come forward and help them in times of need. Hindus just need to take initiatives to organize such resistance movement.
You said - Hindus will be annihilated if they try to defend their basic human right, which is self-defense. I do not understand what you are trying to say here. Historically, Hindus have not resisted any attacks on them ever. That did not stop their annihilation (Hindus were ~32% in 1947, 18% in 1971, ~10% 2011).
It is hard for me to imagine that - these crimes are sanctioned by any political party. It can't be. I believe - it is mostly driven by personal interests, which could be personal political interest also. As long as such events are not sanctioned by the political ideology of a party, they should not be considered as political issue. Resistance movement by Hindus is against criminals, and everybody should encourage it, help them, and stand alongside Hindus in that fight.
In the civilized countries, there are neighborhood watch groups, vigilante groups, etc. against local criminal activities. In Bangladesh, Hindus are vulnerable and weak; please encourage them and help them to protect themselves from criminals and thugs.

Prime Minister should trust her advisers, but verify everything independently. She should remember – nothing happens in politics without interest. She should follow President Reagan's – trust but verify principle. I wish Bangobondhu followed this principle; apparently he trusted everybody around him.
Unlike BNP, Awami League is lucky to have a courageous and principled leader, like Sheikh Hasina. She made mistakes in her previous term by giving too much responsibility to some young unknown and untested individuals, who were incompetent for the positions they were given. I raised this issue many times before. Those young ministers were unable to launch a publicity campaign for the progress their government made. Only Sheikh Hasina was making the case for it, whenever she could. As a result, most people believed the falsehood BNP/Jamat were propagating.
BNP was formed to keep anti-secular, anti-Bangali Pakistani political ideology alive in Bangladesh. So, its political ideology depends on falsehood. BNP can't survive without Pakistani India-phobia propaganda; they need to keep people under constant threat from India, and for that - they need to manufacture communal tension, if there is none. Such strategy is against the spirit of liberation struggle, and it is not good for Bangladesh. With such policies, BNP cannot build peaceful Bangladesh, it will drive the country into a chaos, and conflict.

খালেদা জিয়া ভোটের সময় এবং ভোটপরবর্তী সময়ে বলতে থাকেন, যেমন বলেছেন পূর্ববর্তী একটি নির্বাচন সময়ে, আওয়ামী লীগকে ভোট দিলে ফেনী থেকে সব অঞ্চল ভারতের অঙ্গরাজ্যে পর্যবসিত হবে এবং মসজিদে মসজিদে উলুধ্বনি শোনা যাবে। সম্প্রতি অনুষ্ঠিত নির্বাচনোত্তর পরিস্থিতিতে জামায়াত-বিএনপি একত্রে দেশের বিভিন্ন অংশে সংখ্যালঘু এবং আওয়ামী সমর্থকদের, বাড়িঘরে আগুন দিয়েছে, সংখ্যালঘু জনসমর্থের নারীদের ওপর তাদের উদ্যোগে নির্যাতন ভয়াবহ আকার ধারণ করেছে। সরকার আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী মোতাবেন করে পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিচ্ছে। এই পরিস্থিতিতে খালেদা জিয়া, সাতক্ষীরা গিয়ে বলেছেন যৌথবাহিনীর সঙ্গে কাজ করছে এমন সব চেহারার মানুষ, যারা এদেশের বাসিন্দা নয়।
খালেদা জিয়ার বিভিন্ন বক্তব্যের মধ্যে একটা ধারাবাহিকতা আছে। খালেদা জিয়া বাংলাদেশকে বহুজাতির দেশ বলে বিশ্বাস করেন না। তাঁর বিশ্বাস মোতাবেক বাংলাদেশে একটি একক জাতি বাস করে, তারা মুসলমান, বাকি সব জাতি; হিন্দু বৌদ্ধ খ্রীস্টান পাহাড়ী এবং তারণ্যক জনসমষ্টি মুসলমান জাতির কাছে অর্ধস্তন, সেদিক থেকে অধস্তন জনসমষ্টির মৌলিক অধিকার নেই।
যারা অধস্তন তারা নাগরিক নয়। যারা নাগরিক নয়, তাদের ভিন্ন ধর্ম পালনের অধিকার নেই, তাদের জমিজমা ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যের ওপর অধিকার নেই। একটি একক জাতির আধিপত্য বিস্তার করতে হবে এবং একক জাতির আধিপত্য শক্তিশালী করতে হবে সন্ত্রাস ও সশস্ত্র শক্তির মাধ্যমে। তাহলেই মুসলমান জাতির রাজনীতি দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় শক্তিশালী করা সম্ভব হবে এবং দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার মুসলমান জাতির রাজনীতির সঙ্গে মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের মুসলিম উম্মার রাজনীতির মেলবন্ধন সম্ভব হবে। মুসলিম উম্মার রাজনীতি মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে মুখথুবড়ে পড়েছে এবং দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় ক্রমাগত সন্ত্রাসী রাজনীতিতে পর্যবসিত হচ্ছে : এ সম্বন্ধে খালেদা জিয়ার ধারণা অস্পষ্ট। মুসলিম উম্মার কনসেপ্ট এখন খ-বিখ- : মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে মুসলিম উম্মার কনসেপ্টের মধ্যে এখন আল কায়দার অনুপ্রবেশ ঘটেছে এবং দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় মুসলিম উম্মার কনসেপ্টের মধ্যে জামায়াতে ইসলামের অনুপ্রবেশ ঘটেছে।
যে কোন সমাজ ব্যবস্থায় আত্মঘাতের পথ তৈরি হয় সন্ত্রাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে। খালেদা জিয়া, বাংলাদেশে, এই আত্মঘাতের পথ তৈরি করেছেন বিএনপি-জামায়াতের মেলবন্ধনের মধ্যে দিয়ে। খালেদা জিয়া তাঁর কর্মকা-ের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলাদেশকে গুডবাই জানাচ্ছেন। তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করার কোন কারণ নেই। যারা বাংলাদেশে অনবরত আল কায়েদা (আল কায়েদার অপর নাম জামায়াত) তৈরি করে তাদের রাজনীতিকে বিদায় জানাবার সময় এসেছে। খালেদা জিয়া বিএনপি জামায়াত সবাইকে বিদায় বাংলাদেশের মাটি থেকে।

খালেদা জিয়ার বিভিন্ন বক্তব্যের মধ্যে একটা ধারাবাহিকতা আছে। খালেদা জিয়া বাংলাদেশকে বহুজাতির দেশ বলে বিশ্বাস করেন না। তাঁর বিশ্বাস মোতাবেক বাংলাদেশে একটি একক জাতি বাস করে, তারা মুসলমান, বাকি সব জাতি; হিন্দু বৌদ্ধ খ্রীস্টান পাহাড়ী এবং তারণ্যক জনসমষ্টি মুসলমান জাতির কাছে অর্ধস্তন, সেদিক থেকে অধস্তন জনসমষ্টির মৌলিক অধিকার নেই।

যে কোন সমাজ ব্যবস্থায় আত্মঘাতের পথ তৈরি হয় সন্ত্রাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে। খালেদা জিয়া, বাংলাদেশে, এই আত্মঘাতের পথ তৈরি করেছেন বিএনপি-জামায়াতের মেলবন্ধনের মধ্যে দিয়ে। খালেদা জিয়া তাঁর কর্মকা-ের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলাদেশকে গুডবাই জানাচ্ছেন। তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করার কোন কারণ নেই। যারা বাংলাদেশে অনবরত আল কায়েদা (আল কায়েদার অপর নাম জামায়াত) তৈরি করে তাদের রাজনীতিকে বিদায় জানাবার সময় এসেছে। খালেদা জিয়া বিএনপি জামায়াত সবাইকে বিদায় বাংলাদেশের মাটি থেকে।
