Crocodile tears for Mujib? Taher was an independent thinker with free spirit. Zia did not do a great favor to Mujib by killing Col. Taher? It was only to make Zia's own position stronger and lengthier. Please make no mistake about that simple gambit.

সন্ধ্যায় খোন্দকার মোশ্তাক আহ্মাদ বঙ্গভবনে প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে শপথ নেন। শপথগ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠানে তাহের উপস্থিত ছিলেন। দু'দিন পর ১৭ই আগস্ট সকালে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র নঈম জাহাঙ্গীর নারায়ণগঞ্জে তাহেরের বাসায় যান পরিস্থিতি সম্পর্কে আঁচ করতে। ১৯৭১ সালে নঈম ১১ নম্বর সেক্টরে তাহেরের সহযোদ্ধা ছিলেন এবং প্রায়ই তার সঙ্গে দেখা-সাক্ষাৎ করতেন। তাহের আক্ষেপ করে নঈমকে বললেন, ওরা বড় রকমের একটা ভুল করেছে। শেখ মুজিবকে কবর দিতে অ্যালাও করা ঠিক হয়নি। এখন তো সেখানে মাজার হবে। উচিত ছিল লাশটা বঙ্গোপসাগরে ফেলে দেয়া। ১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ই আগস্ট জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের হত্যাকাণ্ড-পরবর্তী পরিস্থিতি প্রসঙ্গে লেখক ও গবেষক মহিউদ্দিন আহমদের প্রকাশিতব্য গ্রন্থে এসব কথা বলা হয়েছে। দৈনিক প্রথম আলোর ঈদ সংখ্যায়- '৭ নভেম্বরের সাত-সতেরো' শিরোনামে বইটির অংশবিশেষ প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। এতে আরও বলা হয়েছে, লেফটেন্যান্ট কর্নেল আবু তাহের ছিলেন জাসদের সামরিক সংগঠন বিপ্লবী গণবাহিনীর ফিল্ড কমান্ডার। তিনি সম্ভবত জানতেন না, ১৫ই আগস্ট তারিখটিই অভ্যুত্থানের জন্য নির্ধারিত হয়ে আছে। তবে এ রকম একটা ঘটনা যে ঘটতে পারে তা তার অজানা থাকার কথা নয়। কোটি টাকার প্রশ্ন ছিল, কবে কখন? শেখ মুজিব সরকারকে উৎখাতের জন্য তাহেরের নিজস্ব পরিকল্পনা ছিল। শেখ মুজিবের প্রতি তার ক্ষোভ ছিল অপরিসীম। তাহের মনে করতেন, মুজিব সরকার সেনাবাহিনীর উন্নয়নে চরম অবহেলা দেখিয়েছে এবং রক্ষীবাহিনীর মতো একটা কুখ্যাত আধাসামরিক বাহিনী তৈরি করেছে। তিনি সংশ্লিষ্ট মহলের কাছে এর তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছিলেন। যুদ্ধের সময় ভারতের সঙ্গে করা গোপন চুক্তির ব্যাপারেও তিনি প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কাছে প্রতিবাদ জানিয়েছিলেন। বাহাত্তর সালের নভেম্বরেই এসব ঘটেছিল এবং এ কারণেই লে. কর্নেল জিয়াউদ্দিন এবং তিনি যার যার রাজনৈতিক লাইন বেছে নিয়েছিলেন। অবশ্য তারা পরস্পরের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ রাখতেন এবং সার্বিক পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে মতবিনিময় করতেন। ছিয়াত্তরে তাহের ও অন্যদের বিচারের সময় তাহের এসব কথা উল্লেখ করেন। শেখ মুজিব সম্পর্কে তাহেরের মূল্যায়ন ছিল এ রকম: শেখ মুজিব জনগণের নেতা ছিলেন। অস্বীকার করার অর্থ হবে সত্যকে অস্বীকার করা। চূড়ান্ত বিশ্লেষণে তার ভাগ্য নিয়ন্ত্রণের ভার জনগণের ওপরই বর্তায়। জনগণের জন্য সঠিক পথ হবে জেগে ওঠা এবং প্রতারণার দায়ে মুজিবকে উৎখাত করা। আমার দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস, যে জনগণ মুজিবকে নেতা বানিয়েছে তারাই একদিন স্বৈরাচারী মুজিবকে ধ্বংস করবে। জনগণ কাউকে ষড়যন্ত্র করার অধিকার দেয়নি।
১৫ই আগস্ট সকালে মুহসীন হলের ছাত্র নূর মোহাম্মদ ঢাকা নগর গণবাহিনীর উপপ্রধান আবুল হাসিব খানের কাছে ঢাকা নগর গণবাহিনীর কমান্ডার আনোয়ার হোসেনের একটি চিরকুট নিয়ে আসেন। চিরকুটে প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ছাত্র সংসদের অফিসে ঢাকা নগর গণবাহিনীর জরুরি সভা হবে বলে উল্লেখ ছিল। সভা শুরু হলে আনোয়ার হোসেন উপস্থিত সবাইকে বলেন, 'ভাইজান (লে. কর্নেল আবু তাহের) সকালে রেডিও স্টেশনে গিয়েছিলেন। তিনি মেজর ডালিমকে বকাঝকা করে বলেছেন, '... এর মেজর হয়েছ। এখন পর্যন্ত একটা মার্শাল ল' প্রক্লেমেশন ড্রাফট করতে পারলে না। জানো কাল ইউনিভার্সিটিতে কারা বোমা ফাটিয়েছিল? দে আর মাই বয়েজ।' লেফটেন্যান্ট কর্নেল আবু তাহের মেজর রশিদের অনুরোধে সকাল নয়টায় ঢাকা বেতার কেন্দ্রে যান। সেখানে তিনি খোন্দকার মোশ্তাক আহমদ, তাহের উদ্দিন ঠাকুর, মেজর ডালিম ও মেজর জেনারেল খলিলুর রহমানকে দেখতে পান। তার পরামর্শে ডালিমরা সশস্ত্র বাহিনীর তিন প্রধানকে বেতার ভবনে নিয়ে আসেন অভ্যুত্থানকারীদের পক্ষে বিবৃতি দেয়ার জন্য। তিনি খোন্দকার মোশ্তাককে পাঁচটি প্রস্তাব দেন। প্রস্তাবগুলো ছিল: ১. অবিলম্বে সংবিধান বাতিল করতে হবে; ২. সারা দেশে সামরিক আইন জারি এবং এর প্রয়োগ করতে হবে; ৩. দল-মত-নির্বিশেষে সব রাজনৈতিক বন্দিকে মুক্তি দিতে হবে; ৪. বাকশালকে বাদ দিয়ে একটি সর্বদলীয় জাতীয় সরকার গঠন করতে হবে; ৫. অবিলম্বে একটি গণপরিষদ তথা পার্লামেন্টের জন্য সাধারণ নির্বাচনের ব্যবস্থা করতে হবে। সামরিক শাসন জারির দাবি ছিল তাহেরের একান্ত নিজস্ব।উৎসঃ মানব জমিন
