Re: [mukto-mona] [Mukto-Mona Writers' Corner] 'An Open Letter to Moderate Muslims written by Ali A Rizvi'

We can then probably conclude that religion is not the only determinant of one's ideological and political beliefs. One's personal belief thus may not be reflected in his political beliefs and actions. Gandhi who in his personal life was highly religious fought for secular India. Azad in his young age wanted to join the underground Onusheelon group but was not accepted because of his religious identity. His political and secular convictions were so firm that he never became a Jinnah or Mowdoodi.

It will be an impractical idea to define a true Muslim (and for that matter a true Hindu or a true Christian and so on). We can specify only levels and intensities of religious belief. Professor Salam substantially contributed to the efforts towards discovering the so called God particle or Higgs boson and thereby defying the theological theory or mythological idea of genesis. But he was a highly religious Muslim. Darwin was not atheist either although many of the modern believers do not accept the theory of evolution. I guess it is possible for many people to keep the two mental faculties (one indulging in irrational faith and the other one demanding rational and analytical thought processes) quite distinct.

In almost every instance Russell solution "Every point of view creates its own reality" solves the problem! Azad belonged to the Deoband school and thus subscribed to even more orthodox view of Islam than the Taliban inspired by the Salafi school, Moududi, Ali Shariati etc. Secularism was input by Nehru, Azad could not prevent it. By the way, he was the original Quaid - e - Azam earning the title from the Ulema by virtue of his tafsir delivered at the ripe old age of his early twenties. Jinnah was far more secular than he was.

Thanks for the response. Is it not interesting that the same input produced two quite different outputs? Azad presided over an education system for secular and democratic India while Omar pushed back the same to darkness. How do we explain this?

Mullah Omar is a karma yogi and Moulana Azad is a gnan yogi. They both believed in the tenets of Islam as from heaven.

How would we distinguish between Mollah Omar and Moulana Azad then?

The notion of moderate Muslim is a misconception. A Muslim is a Muslim he/she cant be moderate or extremist. Islam is a clearly articulated faith with draconian limitations. As a Muslim cant be a secularist because a Muslim cant be a neutral person and by doing so one becomes a non Muslim. If a Muslim does not believe in the Five Pillars of Islam his/her faith falters. The entire Muslim umma is  responsible for the atrocities those are being committed in the name of Islam. Is there a general movement against these extremists? No. What does this mean? There is a deliberate unwillingness to condemn the extremists. Muslims are detested, castigated and condemned by every non Muslim but Muslims does not care about this shame. For dead man they comes in millions to save his so called honour but for the living? Who cares.

Mukto-Mona Writers' Corner has posted a new item, 'An Open Letter to Moderate
Muslims written by Ali A Rizvi'

A Pakistani-Canadian writer and activist, Ali A Rizvi, wrote this 'Open Letter'
to all moderate Muslims in the Huffington Post. It is worth reading and highly
illuminating. The link is given first, followed by the full text.
