Re: [mukto-mona] Israel is simply not equally at fault

Is Palestine an independent state? I told you before - settlement is a political decision; it serves strategic interests of Israel.

You are talking like an internationalist who does not believe in states and hence political borders. We all will love it if we need to move to a place of my choice and settle there. Yes if construction and settlement goes on with mutual consent, that's a different issue.

Settlement is a political, not a humanitarian, decision. Settlement is happening in the barren land, which is not displacing Palestinians. If it would, I would say it is wrong. I am judging this issue from a neutral position.
You need to understand the issue from the interests of both sides, if you want to be subjective about it.

My problem is that I see only the statement and discussion of a serious problem. My problem is that I don't see any pragmatic views or solutions presented.
Nice way to support Israeli settlement Dr. Roy! Dr. Roy, if you think settlement is wrong, you have to emphatically say that it is wrong.

I don't know what your problem is. Can you read the first paragraph again and think about it.
The international sentiment, so far, has been in favor of Palestinians, and Israelis were the obstacle to the peace process. Now, the donor nations are having doubts if their Tax payers' money will be used for a worthwhile purpose if Gaza is rebuilt again. They know Hamas will start launching rockets at Israel again from those buildings, and Israel will shell them down again. This is a very pragmatic thinking by the donors, which may be the panacea for the peace, because - no Palestinian violence, no Israeli violence. And, where there is no violence, there is peace.
You talked about Israeli settlements. That could be a good thing for Palestinians if that land falls in their territory after peace is achieved. As you know - Israel vacated settlements in Gaza, which Palestinians got, but used later on to launch rockets at Israel, and they are shelled down by Israel. So, the new settlements this time in the West Bank could be used as a bargain chip in the peace talk, when resumes. Anything is possible under good terms between Israelis and Palestinians.

I can only see the statement of a major problem. I don't see any pragmatic view expressed in the article. What is the solution any way. Perspectives and interests are diverse. Over the last seventy years or so situation has become more and more complicated everyday. Israeli settlement continues. Palestinians are not sure who there true leader is: Compromising and corrupted secularists or the jingoistic Islamists? The west or the middle east?

A pragmatic view of Israel-Palestinian problem; we can deliberate on this issue.
