Political gains are minimal in erasing the past Hindu history in the region. This program started out of the inferiority complex of some Muslim league leaders in Pakistan. They were probably feeling haunted by the successes of the Hindu community in the region. They decided to start a concerted effort to erase them all from the region, and started to teach distorted history to the young generations. I have witnessed this program first hand while growing up in Pakistan. Some brain-dead leaders in Bangladesh have extended that program for no reason at all, because Hindu community is reduced to the downtrodden community now, and they are no longer a threat to the Muslim community.

I am not surprised how easily the character of a noble man has been stained with "Hindu identity" though Kartik Babu was above all those lowlessness and was simply a fine human being as described by the writer.
 
I remember, Shachin dactar was a similar fine human being at Domar in my childhood.  My parents remember Profullo dactar in their life time.  I also remember Gani dacter (self learnt), Soliman dactar (LMF) of similar calibre.
 
But its true because of the political partition of the country a person being a Hindu identity in Bangladesh did not get what he deserved in return.   It is a sad human picture in a political environment.

Nice tribute to Mr. Kartic Babu (Doctor)! Your sincere observations reveal the story of this poor fellow, who gave all for the people in the region, but got only despair and neglect from people in return. Thank you for that.
Not too many people have the courage to admit it. You are right - not many people remember contributions of Hindu Community in Bangladesh; I blame Bangladeshi Governments for this.
Changing names of various landmark places and streets, and changing words from the textbooks, is an attempt to erase contributions of Hindu Community in that region. This was a Pakistani policy. We had a rail station named Rameshwar Pur near my home, which was changed to Yachhin Pur during Pakistani period.
If I am not mistaken, BNP government continued that policy in Bangladesh much more aggressively than Awami League government. I know BNP government changed many textbooks to replace Bangla-words because those words are used by Hindus more often than Muslims.
There are people, who think they can rewrite history just because they have some power to do so. Communists believed in that policy, and they used it extensively in their propaganda campaigns to brainwash people and to rewrite the history. You see the result - History did not change; in fact, History put them in the place they deserve.
This type of sick mean mentality usually do come to the mind of those who know themselves as inferior, but want to portray themselves as superior, which is the Inferiority Complex. This complex force them to suppress the contributions of others. This practice is still prevalent in many Muslim majority countries. History will put them in the right place also.
