সিলেট জেলা ভেটেরিনারি হাসপাতালের আঙিনায় এভাবে বেঞ্চ পেতে বসেন ছাত্রলীগের নেতা-কর্মীরা। গত শনিবার তোলা ছবি l প্রথম আলোভেটেরিনারি (পশুরোগবিষয়ক) হাসপাতাল! নাম শুনলেই গরু-ছাগল, হাঁস-মুরগিসহ পোষা প্রাণীর চিকিৎসা নিতে যাওয়া মানুষের আনাগোনার চিত্র চোখে ভেসে ওঠে। তবে সিলেট নগরের মির্জাজাঙ্গাল এলাকায় পশু হাসপাতাল নামে পরিচিত জেলা ভেটেরিনারি হাসপাতালের চিত্র ভিন্ন। হাসপাতালের সীমানাপ্রাচীর ঘেরা প্রাঙ্গণ থেকে শুরু করে বিভিন্ন কক্ষ, বারান্দায় তাঁদের অবস্থান। প্রতিদিন অফিস সময়সূচির পর থেকে মধ্যরাত পর্যন্ত চেয়ার, বেঞ্চে বসে চলে হইহুল্লোড়। ব্যবহৃত হয় হাসপাতালের বিভিন্ন কক্ষ।
গত শুক্রবার রাতে এ চিত্র একনজর দেখে খোঁজ নিতে গিয়ে জানা গেল, এভাবে এক দিন-দুদিন নয়, প্রায় তিন সপ্তাহ ধরে পশু হাসপাতালে আস্তানা গেড়েছেন সিলেট মহানগর ছাত্রলীগের একাংশের নেতা-কর্মীরা। সরকারি হাসপাতালের প্রাঙ্গণ সরকারি দল হিসেবে ব্যবহার চলছে রীতিমতো দলীয় কার্যালয়ের মতো। যেন ছাত্রলীগের ঠিকানা এখানে পশু হাসপাতাল। 
নগরের মির্জাজাঙ্গাল এলাকায় ২৩ শতক জায়গার ওপর হাসপাতালটি অবস্থিত। দোতলা ভবনের নিচতলায় রয়েছে ভেটেরিনারি চিকিৎসকদের চেম্বারসহ হাসপাতাল। অন্যদিকে হাসপাতালের অফিসকক্ষ। দোতলায় হাসপাতাল তত্ত্বাবধায়কের আবাসন। ভেটেরিনারি চিকিৎসকের চেম্বারগুলো তালাবদ্ধ থাকায় সেখানকার বারান্দা ও আঙিনায় বেঞ্চ ও চেয়ার ফেলে ছাত্রলীগের নেতা-কর্মীরা বসেন। অফিসকক্ষ তালাবদ্ধ থাকলেও সেগুলোর তালা ভেঙে কক্ষ ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। হাসপাতালে কর্তব্যরতদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করলে তাঁরা ঘটনাটি ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্তৃপক্ষকে জানানো হয়েছে বলে নিজেদের অসহায়ত্বের বিষয়টি প্রকাশ করেন। 'ছাত্রলীগের ছেলেরা এভাবে থাকলে এটিকে কি আর হাসপাতাল বলা চলে?' এমন প্রশ্ন তুলে ক্ষোভও প্রকাশ করেন কেউ কেউ। 
নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে কয়েকজন কর্মকর্তা জানান, সিলেট মহানগর ছাত্রলীগের নতুন কমিটি হয়েছে, এ জন্য প্রথমে এক সপ্তাহ তাঁরা এখানে অবস্থান করবেন বলে জানান। গত ২৯ জুলাই এক সপ্তাহ পর আরও এক মাস থাকতে হবে জানিয়ে নতুন বেঞ্চ এনে হাসপাতালের পশুর শেডে রাখা হয়। এরপর থেকে হাসপাতালের সম্মেলনকক্ষসহ বিভিন্ন অফিসকক্ষ অবাধে ব্যবহার শুরু হয়।
সরেজমিনে দেখা গেছে, ছাত্রলীগ ক্যাডার পীযূষকান্তি দেসহ নগর ছাত্রলীগের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক সজল দাশ ওরফে অনিকের পক্ষের কর্মীরা হাসপাতালে এভাবে অবস্থান করছেন। পীযূষকান্তি ২০১৩ সালের ২২ ফেব্রুয়ারি প্রকাশ্যে অস্ত্রের মহড়া দিয়ে আলোচিত হয়েছিলেন।
হাসপাতাল কর্তৃপক্ষ জানায়, হাসপাতাল থেকে সরতে বললে তাঁরা উল্টো হুমকি-ধমকি দেন। 'পশু হাসপাতাল তো খালিই পড়ে থাকে। হাসপাতাল সরকারি, আমরাও সরকারি দল—অসুবিধা কী,' এসব বলে শাসান তাঁরা।
গত শনিবার দুপুরে সরেজমিনে দেখা যায়, হাসপাতালের অফিসকক্ষের কলাপসিবল ফটক খুলে পীযূষকান্তিসহ ছাত্রলীগের কয়েকজন কর্মী বসে আছেন। সম্মেলনকক্ষে কেউ বিশ্রাম নিচ্ছেন, আবার কেউ বসে আড্ডা দিচ্ছিলেন। ওই দিন জাতীয় শোক দিবস থাকায় বঙ্গবন্ধুর ছবি-সংবলিত বড় একটি ব্যানার হাসপাতালের সাইনবোর্ড আড়াল করে সাঁটানো দেখা গেছে। 
ছাত্রলীগ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, সিলেটের মদন মোহন কলেজ শাখা ছাত্রলীগের একটি পক্ষ নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেন ছাত্রলীগের সাবেক নেতা পীযূষকান্তি দে। ২০০৩ সালে মহানগর ছাত্রলীগের যুগ্ম আহ্বায়কের পদে ছিলেন তিনি। এরপর তিন দফা নগর কমিটি হলেও পীযূষ কোনো পদে না থেকেও নগর ছাত্রলীগের একটি পক্ষের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছেন। গত বছরের ১ সেপ্টেম্বর নগরের তালতলা এলাকার একটি আবাসিক হোটেলে গিয়ে এক লাখ টাকা চাঁদা দাবি করে গ্রেপ্তার হয়েছিলেন পীযূষ। প্রায় এক মাস জেল খেটে কিছুটা নিষ্ক্রিয় হলেও সম্প্রতি কেন্দ্র ঘোষিত ছাত্রলীগের নগর কমিটিতে তাঁর পক্ষের সজল দাশ সাংগঠনিক পদ পাওয়ায় নিজের পক্ষকে নিয়ে ফের সক্রিয় হন। 
পীযূষ পক্ষের কয়েকজন কর্মী জানান, গত ২২ জুলাই সিলেট মহানগর কমিটির সভাপতি, সাধারণ সম্পাদক ও সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক পদে চার সদস্যের নাম ঘোষণার পর থেকে পীযূষ দলবল নিয়ে ওই হাসপাতালে অবস্থান করছেন। হাসপাতালটি নিরিবিলি স্থানে ও নগরের কেন্দ্রস্থলে হওয়ায় তাঁরা ব্যবহার করছেন। 
গত রোববার মুঠোফোনে যোগাযোগ করলে পীযূষ ও সজল হাসপাতালে অবস্থান করার বিষয়টি স্বীকার করেন। পীযূষের দাবি, হাসপাতাল কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছ থেকে অনুমতি নিয়ে অবস্থান করছেন তাঁরা। সরকারি হাসপাতালে অনুমতি নিয়েও কি তাহলে রাজনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড পরিচালনা করা যায়—এমন প্রশ্নের জবাবে পীযূষ বলেন, 'আমরা তো চিরস্থায়ী না, এই একটা মাস থাকব। পরে চলে যাব।' সজল দাশও একই সুরে বলেন, 'আমরা হাসপাতালে নয়, বাইরে খোলা আকাশের নিচে বসি। তাতে তো অসুবিধা হওয়ার কথা নয়।' 
এ ব্যাপারে জেলা প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তা মো. নূরুল ইসলাম প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, 'তাঁদের (ছাত্রলীগ) ডেকে বলে দিয়েছি চলে যেতে। বলেছি এটা সরকারি হাসপাতাল, এভাবে থাকতে পারেন না। তাঁরা সময় নিয়েছেন, বলেছেন এক মাস পর চলে যাবেন।' সরকারি কোনো হাসপাতালের প্রাঙ্গণ এভাবে ব্যবহার করার নজির আছে কি না, এমন প্রশ্নের কোনো জবাব দেননি প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তা।
