In our childhood, of course, we all read Upendrakishore Roy Chowdhury, father of the great Sukumar Roy, grandfather of Satyajit Roy. Now those same texts we read are being branded as something terrible, যেটা সংখ্যাগরিষ্ট মুসলমান ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের বাধ্যতামূলক পড়তে হচ্ছে।
My nana, Kobi Golam Mostafa, spent his entire professional life as a Bangla language teacher and text-book writer for children. And he included excerpts from Ramayana-Kahini in his 'reader' or paThyapushtak for school-going children. Generations of children grew up reading these wonderfully and delightfully rendered stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata by Upendrakishore Roy Chowdhury. I used these texts while I was teaching Bangla Language and Literature at Columbia University in NYC as a part of extending the cultural horizon of the students
Someone -- please investigate this Noyon Chatterjee. We have to use the arm of LAW (Section 57 of ICT Act) to stop spreading communal hatred and potential of communal violence.
