Acting Secretary General condemns ruling party cadre’s attack on minority communities and their establishments in Kishorganj

MONDAY, 06TH JUNE, 2016

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 6th June, 2016 condemning the incident as some ruling party cadres attacked and vandalized the house and temple of Binoy Chandra Das, who is the president of Dhonkura Durga temple in Dhonkura village at Araibaria union of the Hosenpur Upazila in Kishorganj district as a consequence of the defeat of the ruling Awami League’s rival candidate in the recently held union council poll.

The incident of attack and vandalism in the house of Binoy Chandra Das, hailed from Dhonkura village at Araibaria union of the Hosenpur Upazila in Kishorganj district proved that Awami hooligans are usually attacking the houses and temples of the minorities.

During the recently held union council polls, the minority people and their houses have come under repeated attack of the ruling party cadres. Often they have been assaulted physically and their properties have been looted as well. Not only that, the ruling party terrorists also threatened minorities to leave their house and in many occasions, the ruling party goons have made them compelled to leave houses. This is not the recent misdeeds by Awami League; they are used to do so since the independence of the country. The human rights organizations and the minority leaders should play more pivotal and specific role in this regard. They should speak the truth. These kinds of wrongdoing should not be concealed anyhow.

From a long time, Bangladesh is upholding the glorious tradition of communal harmony. But it is being threatened often by the Awami League and its cadres. We are deeply worried about the issue. These misdeeds should be investigated properly and the real criminals must be identified.

We want to assert that the incumbent boastful, authoritarian and tyrannical government cannot take any preventive measures to stop attacks on minorities as they are the mastermind of these ill deeds. As the guardian of the world community, United Nations and its Human Rights Commission should take appropriate steps in this regard. Only through their initiatives, the minority people would get a scope to remain saved from the clutches of the present aggressor regime.”
