I agree with you partly, Mr. Husainy. News blackout is one thing, concealing own response to the crisis is another. Definitely nobody wants to know the response before it it has matured or ready for public consumption. There is something called "diversion" tactics to dodge the attackers, should they have access to outside information. When the whole world media is abuzz with the Dhaka incident, it looks obnoxiously odd that Bangladesh media was broadcasting feature films and dramas. The public deserve to be told or at least kept in good humor about what was going on, not necessarily what the law enforcers were actually planning. Absence of information generates rumors and conspiracy theories. That's the point.
About Madrasa education. We have dealt with it umpteen times. Here again, I agree with you partly. Our half-educated and orthodox-minded Mullahs are at times a problem. They need to be given proper, pragmatic, research-based scholarly Islamic education to cope with the changing world. The Islamic education needs to be modernized so that its graduates can join the mainstream productive activities, rather than living on charity by giving outdated and not very helpful waz-nasihats. Ziaur Rahman started a program to send Imams and Islamic educationists to some Middle Eastern and other Islamic countries to be aware of modern Islamic thought process on various issues, such as birth control, in those countries. The program stopped after his death.
I don't agree that our Madrasas produce terrorist or Jihadists. It may be true in some parts of Pakistan or in India but not in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi Madrasa students are very poor, simple and their education is largely run on charity, both local and overseas. Did the students at Shapla Chattar on May 5/6, 2013 appear terrorists? Did anyone have even a lathi with him? To be a Jihaist or terrorist, one does not have study in a Madrasa. Take a survey and find out the background of those convicted terrorists in Bangladesh to see how many came from Madrasa background. And then, what would you call the Chatra League terror tandobs regularly committed, including the recent one against the Vice-Chancellor of DU? They are no Madrasa students!

Sir, the media blackout was the correct call. You don't want the terrorists to know what the authorities are doing to counter them. It is a national problem and not a partisan issue. The seeds of this was planted since the days we started accepting Saudi money and started hardening our imams ala Wahabi style. In the sun-continent we practice Sufism which is in conflict with Wahabism. We have "outsourced" religious functions to the clergy (imams) who only learn to memorize the Quran and like a parrot repeat or make reference to an isolated verse. These people are not widely educated and do not know how to interpret the essence of the Quran and Hadith. The biggest 'Shirk' for a human being is to judge a fellow human. One thing we cannot do is to be righteous. Only the Almighty has that option. So besides boycotting the KSA goons, we also need to eradicate the misguided Imams. The whole concept Pan Islamism is a political notion and for that unity to come to fruition, the Muslims need to stop killing each other. But then again, the non Muslims need to stop the killings as well.
This is a national problem that all people have to collectively solve it. It is not an BAL or BNO or Jamaat issue. We all need to unite to fight this cancer. Jazakallaulkhair.

প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা বলেছেন, আমাদের ওপর আস্থা রাখুন।সন্ত্রাসীদের নির্মূল করে বাংলাদেশকে একটি শান্তিপূর্ণ রাষ্ট্রে পরিণত করবই।শনিবার রাতে রেডিও ও টেলিভিশনে জাতির উদ্দেশে দেয়া ভাষণে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। হামলায় নিহত ব্যক্তিদের স্মরণে দুই দিনের রাষ্ট্রীয় শোকও ঘোষণা করেন তিনি। প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'আমাদের উপর আস্থা রাখুন। ৩০ লাখ শহীদ এবং দুই লাখ মা-বোনের সম্ভ্রমের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত বাংলাদেশের সার্বভৌমত্ব আমরা যে কোনো মূল্যে রক্ষা করতে প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ। দেশবাসীকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে যে কোনো মূল্যে আমরা ষড়যন্ত্রকারীদের চক্রান্ত প্রতিহত করব।'

প্রধানমন্ত্রী তার ভাষণে বলেন, 'আসুন, আমরা সকল ভেদাভেদ ভুলে গিয়ে একটি নিরাপদ বাংলাদেশ, জাতির পিতার স্বপ্নের সোনার বাংলা প্রতিষ্ঠায় একযোগে কাজ করি।' সন্ত্রাসীদের সমূলে নির্মূল করে বাংলাদেশকে শান্তিপূর্ণ রাষ্ট্রে পরিণত করার দৃঢ় সংকল্প জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, 'কোনো ষড়যন্ত্রই আমাদের অগ্রযাত্রাকে প্রতিহত করতে পারবে না।কমান্ডো অভিযানে তিন বিদেশিসহ ১৩ জনকে জীবিত অবস্থায় উদ্ধারের তথ্য তুলে ধরে নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর সদস্যদের কাজের প্রশংসা করেন সরকার প্রধান। হামলা ঠেকাতে গিয়ে নিহত দুই পুলিশ কর্মকর্তার সাহসিকতার প্রশংসাও করেন তিনি। জিম্মি সঙ্কট অভিযানে অংশ নেয়া পুলিশ, র্যাব, বিজিবি, সেনাবাহিনী, বিমানবাহিনী, নৌবাহিনী, ফায়ার সার্ভিসসহ অন্যান্য বাহিনীর সদস্যদের ধন্যবাদ জানান সরকার প্রধান।এই হামলায় নিহতদের মধ্যে ইতালীয় ও জাপানি নাগরিকদের পাশাপাশি একজন ভারতীয় রয়েছে বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে। ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী ও জাপানের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শিনজো আবে পরিস্থিতি মোকাবেলায় বাংলাদেশের পাশে থাকার আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন। বিশ্ব সম্প্রদায়ের যেসব নেতা বাংলাদেশের প্রতি একাত্মতা ও সংহতি প্রকাশ করেছেন তাদের প্রতিও কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী।তিনি বলেন, বাংলাদেশ যখন একটি আত্ম-মর্যাদাশীল এবং আত্ম-নির্ভরশীল দেশ হিসাবে বিশ্বের বুকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে যাচ্ছে, তখন দেশি-বিদেশি একটি চক্র বাংলাদেশের অগ্রযাত্রাকে বানচালের অপচেষ্টায় লিপ্ত হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশকে অকার্যকর রাষ্ট্র হিসাবে পরিচিত করতেই অস্ত্রের মুখে নিরীহ সাধারণ মানুষকে জিম্মি করা হয়েছিল।

প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা দেশে চলমান গুপ্তহত্যার জন্য বিএনপি-জামায়াত জোটকে অভিযুক্ত করে বলেছেন, 'মাদারীপুরে কলেজ শিক্ষকের হত্যা প্রচেষ্টার সাথে যুক্ত একজন সন্ত্রাসীকে গ্রেফতারের পর এ বিষয়ে আর কোন সন্দেহের অবকাশ নেই।'
