Meghalaya: NCP tags BJP as 'Communal force', rules out alliance with saffron party

SHILLONG, Oct 11, 2017: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) National Secretary and Spokesperson, Narendra Verma on Tuesday called the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a communal force

while ruling out any possibility of entering into a pre or post alliance with the saffron party. As the Assembly elections draw closer, national as well as regional parties in the state are prepared to

put up a good show with focus being laid on bringing about change in governance by overthrowing the congress regime.

These parties (excluding congress) have one thing in common — Congress-free state but none of them have expressed willingness to go for any pre-poll alliance except for two major regional

parties — UDP and HSPDP. While the UDP which is already a member of NEDA- Northeast Democratic Alliance, is already on the same boat as the NPP and BJP, the HSPDP, KHNAM and now

NCP are keeping their distance from the BJP. "The NCP is open to alliance with any likeminded secular party but not any communal forces like the saffron brigade," Verma said.'

Verma who was in Shillong to review the poll preparedness of the NCP and to announce the issuing of the forms to apply for the party tickets said that the doors of the NCP has always been open

for alliance both post-poll and pre-poll elsewhere in the country with likeminded parties but not with the saffron party.

"NCP is always open to having alliance with likeminded parties and the doors are always open as pre-poll and post-alliance is a part of election and democracy but in Meghalaya we are not going

for any prepoll alliance," Verma said.

Asked about alliance with the BJP, Verma said, "No. Not with saffron. Not with communal forces".

He however added that it is a long way to forge a post alliance in Meghalaya. "It is too early. Let the result come and the numbers be clear," Verma added.

Talking about leaders from other political parties joining the NCP, Verma said, "What I have seen and observed is that a lot of people are approaching the NCP and in coming days more and more

leaders from other political parties will be joining the party". On poll preparedness, Verma said, "Our organization set up is really building and in days to come many NCP national leaders would be

visiting the state and a big convention will take place in Tura thereafter Minority leader Tarik Anwar and NCP MP Supriya Suley will also be visiting and in the coming days the momentum will built up".
