Thank you for your e-mail.
I was recently alerted to some very obscene videos of young girls
from Central Asia made to dance at weddings in Saudi Arabia and the
UAE, which have been floating around on the net, some of these girls
probably not even in their teens. What struck me as horrifically
hypocritical was how the Arab audiences sat and watched these little
girls dance sugggestively while Arab boys ran onto the stage from
time to time to push money into their clothes in an act of complete
depravity, watched by Burkha clad Arab women! Clearly there was one
kind of role that the Arabs seemed to have for their own women and a
completely different one even for Muslim women (albeit poor and
deprived ones)from other parts of the world. This, perhaps, is the
other side of the coin for today's trapped Muslim women in some parts
of the world, and, it is sadly telling that both sides are equally
ugly.
And the sad fact is that Muslim women are not the only ones under
such severe stress - Hindu and Sikh women in India have seen equally
bad if not worse. I cannot stress this enough or else I would be
biased against only Islam and against Muslim fundamentalists, which
is not my intention.
