[mukto-mona] An Evening with Shabdaguchha Poetry at Lower Manhattan

Dear Friend,

George Spencer arranged an evening with the 41/42 issue of Shabdaguchha Poetry on March 1, 2009. Without his dedication and continuous effort this event would have not been possible. So, on behalf of Shabdaguchha, I again thank him for this. Please read the following report about this wonderful evening.

Sincerely,

Hassanal Abdullah, editor

An Evening with Shabdaguchha Poetry at Lower Manhattan

On January 1, 2008  the Fourteenth Annual Spoken Word Extravaganza at the Bowery Poetry Club was the place to see and hear poets read, welcoming the new year and a new political climate, all free of charge and in all styles of poetry. This event is the brain child of Bruce Weber and runs from 2pm to midnight. And once again, in Shabdaguchha,  Hassanal Abdullah  has assembled an admirable section of poems that were read that night.
Tonight, March 1, 2009, at the Bengal Curry restaurant in Lower Manhattan, not far from Ground Xero, nine poets read their work from Shabdaguchha. Poems ranged from the political- Peter Kozlowski's line: I feel like I'm being digitized to the lyric- Yuko Otomo's after the rain,/ when the moon/ becomes a shirt/ tailored for/ a dedicated artist  to dark nostalgic- Bob Heman's Do you like creamed spinach?/Are you taking this all seriously?  Linda Lerner read her poem Just a Cat's Breath Away and JD Rage read Pet Birds. Naznin Seamon, George Spencer, Bruce Weber and Hassanal Abdullah also read from the magazine. There was an open reading near the end of the event.
The poets involved are widely published in literary magazines and have authored numerous books of poetry.
